Background information, when I was a senior in HS I applied to all of my state schools, one of the statements a school specifically asked was "have you ever been suspended from school", wanting to be honest I answered yes and briefly explained reasons for said suspension. Ended up deciding not to go to that state school after an admissions decision was made.

Fast forward 7 years later, applied to said state schools med program. got accepted and noticed a hold on my account - called the school about the hold and they said it was for misconduct and I would have to ask my HS to write a letter of good standing and a personal statement of events surrounding the suspension. Reached out to my HS, they won't write the letter since they are not entirely sure what a letter of good standing is.

At this point, at a lost of what to do and super worried about losing my acceptance. Anyone ever went through something similar or have any idea how to proceed in this situation

Who did you reach out to at your HS? The guidance counselor, principle, or other administrator should be fully aware of how to do this.

Either set up a meeting to meet some of the admin folks at your old HS, or contact the med school which accepted you and relay that your HS is too simple to understand what a letter of good standing means and they need to explain it to them.

Or both.

Ask your HS to write a letter that indicates that you left in good standing.
If they are confused by the term, forward the letter from the medical school.

This actually makes more sense, left in good standing vs currently in good standing.

It was the dean of the school and he seemed genuinely confused.

Just so I'm understanding correctly...the medical school that accepted you somehow has access to your high school records and is giving you a hard time about getting suspended from high school seven years ago? I'd say there's approximately a 0% chance that anything at all results from this, but it's absolute madness that they would make you jump through a weird hoop like that as an accepted student - hopefully not reflective of the administration as a whole.

As if getting into medical school wasn't hard enough... :arghh:

this seems like the plot of a terrible tv show

good luck! I'm sure you'll eventually get that letter written up. Seems a bit ridiculous honestly

To clarify it’s not the college of medicine it’s the actual school, the admissions office making me jump through hoops.

The the undergrad college and college of admissions should have their own admissions procedures, right?

I got suspended in high school. So did many of my other peers who became doctors.

Who in their right mind gives a flying **** as long as you graduated? We were kids back then, and kids do stupid things. Just tell your high school that you just want a letter showing that you left the high school in good-standing.

What a bunch of mouthbreathers your potential med school must have.

oh god. I hope my high school days don't come back to haunt me

Print out the email from the university, walk it over to the SOM's admissions office, and make an appointment with a higher up in that office. I say go in person because who knows when the admissions office will respond to an email or a phone call (unless they're a super responsive bunch). If someone in the office has time to meet with you right then and there then you're prepared to explain the situation. If not, then at least you have an appointment for sooner rather than later. Do this Monday morning 8am.

I hope everything works out for you.

Pre-premed look at this as a lesson.
