2012-2013 Panic Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
4th II today from a state school.

I really regret spending so much money on OOS school applications.

If it makes you feel better, my 4 II are all OOS... I'm regretting not sending out more OOS apps, since I haven't gotten any love from my IS schools!

To clarify, those 3 schools rejected me, lol. But thanks! 🙂

Ouch, sorry to hear that. Do you know if a lot of the schools that have been silent are rejecting other people? If so, no news is good news!

Sometimes it feels like this whole process is a game. Most people apply to a over 10 schools with pretty good numbers and it's just luck of the draw...

Just got rejected from my own alma mater, the University of Virginia. I am an OOSer for them, Texas born and raised. I wasn't really expecting to get in there, but I was hoping to get an interview with them. Hopefully I'm getting this bad news this Friday to offset some good news for next Friday on Texas Match Day! Keeping my fingers crossed.

Seems like a respectable list. I can't really give any feedback because the only school on there I applied to was MN. I can say I chose not to apply to the FL schools you did because they had horrific OOS acceptance numbers. Other than that I think your list is solid so long as you have decent numbers and EC. An Oct/Nov application is really late as I'm sure you know. My bet would be that's the reason. I would hang in there. You'll probably score at least 1 or 2 II by the end.

4 rejections 3 interviews 2 pending.....really would like another interview this is my last shot definitely not reapplying so one of these schools better freakin like me. I range between panic and crazy optimism.....

I think I'd rather have the rejections now over these future silent rejections lol. So many quiet schools!

There are also a bunch of schools that have either finished their interviews or are running out, so basically they're just not telling us that we've been rejected. If it weren't for this forum, I would think that I still had a chance!

Why do that? I have have so many silent schools right now it drives me crazy. Just tell me you don't want me! Don't string me along.

What's more annoying to me is to be put on pre interview hold when they KNOW they are going to give me the official axe after 2 more months of stringing me along. Like really please put me out of my misery just reject me now so I don't go around harbouring false hope in my already fragile heart.

I agree. The process is definitely a test of patience. I wish they'd be more straight forward with it

Yes! I hate that

Haven't heard from any of these except CMU (rejection) and the schools among those that I got interviews at (UMN, VCU).

UGH I hate silent rejections. What's odd is that I hear about people getting rejections from a lot of these schools, so why would they give silent rejections to some people and not others?

I think it's because you're still being considered. Probably put into a "maybe but probably not pile" rather than a "definitely not" one. But I don't know. It's strange

Have applied to a bunch of schools. One IS interview. No news from that school. I guess they will silent reject me. So unfair....

No other interviews! no rejections. Do I still have a chance for getting an interview this year?
Thinking of reapplying.......

You do. I just got my first two interviews this week! And a few friends were interviewed in feb and march last year. There's still a chance!

No interviews yet. We have some overlap in the schools we applied too. Which schools did you get the late invites from? Your friends? 3.7/30 here but not complete to October.

I'm with you all on this one. I know for sure at least one decision is coming this week, and it could be one of my last chances.

:xf::scared:

I get my first decision out of three pending this week.
I might have an anxiety meltdown.
It's getting harder to hyper optimistic when you feel reality is about to club you over the head like a baby seal D:

Two of my friends got II's from Rush in Feb/March and one got an II at CMS around the same time. I got an interview at CCOM this past week. Feeling pretty good about that one because of the acceptance rate of those interviewed 😳. Or at least feeling hopeful hehe

Good Luck on CCOM. Great school. Will apply there next year. (Only applied md this year and was too late to apply DO since didn't have DO letter). I did apply to Rush and haven't been rejected yet, so guess that's a plus.

Good luck!! Rush was one of my top choices. I'm still "Complete" with them.

Thank you! I hope the interview goes well

Kind of scary to see the threads popping up about people's questions regarding next application cycle. Is it that time already? I'm still holding out hope for a number of schools...

Wow, your stats are sick. I'm sure you'll get in somewhere.

I'm sure you'll be fine, it's just paranoia creeping in because you haven't gotten any decisions yet.

I have two D.O. interviews the next two weeks and am hoping for good news from CCOM sometime during that time frame as well. As for the MD side, well... it has been a disaster. 0 II and 9 schools left - and I think they mass reject at the end of the cycle anyway. Save your GPA's everyone, anything below a 3.3 makes applying a nightmare.

Hi all,

I'm a frequent reader of SDN, but it's my first time posting here. I'm actually looking to see if anyone can help with my dilemma. I've received 6 interviews and have completed 4 of those... and been wait listed in all 4 of those schools. I feel like that's more than just a fluke. I'm a non-trad applicant with 3.65 gpa, 31mcat, and average volunteering hours (a lot of research experience). I feel like my interviews went decent to very well in those schools (I don't think I've bombed any of them), and I don't have any big red flags on my AMCAS application. I don't understand why I'm getting wait listed at all of these schools... I know everyone has a unique situation, but could it be I'm not saying the right things during interview? My grades are just not the good? I'm losing hope here 🙁

Well, you have to be doing something right if you have 6 interviews. They wouldn't waste their time if there was a red flag or a problem with your grades. They'd probably just reject you. I think you'll most likely be pulled off the waitlist with at least one of the four! Just keep sending updates, get another letter of recommendation if you can, etc. You're in a pretty good situation with that many interviews. Good luck!

Ugh I have a love/ hate relationship with non rolling admissions......love the level playing ground..hate this long wait. Only 3 interviews so far.....applied to 9 schools majority top 20 since only top tier give internationals a fair shot. I think I need a flash forward to march so I know what I'm doing with my life. *rant over*

We have much in common. Best of luck this Friday, but please don't take my spot! 😉

Best of luck to you too! This week is just crawling by so slowly, and I'm trying to be hopeful about a school that's hoping to accept 50% of interviewees, but easily glass half empty. Let's hope to all end up in the glass half full part 😀

I don't know why, but I have the strangest feeling I'm getting news today. Hopefully a) this is true and b) it's good news.

So I have decided that the best way for all schools to reduce the stress level of applicants is simple. Some schools already do this to some extent, the rest of the schools should follow suit.

Choose a specific date or day of the week for releasing decisions. Tuesday could be the day that interview invites are sent out and Friday could be the day that post interview decisions are delivered. It really does not matter when or how frequently, that can be up to each school. I have a couple schools I applied to that already do this.

I still worry what the decision might be, but I do not feel the need to check the online portal or my email every day for those particular schools. I can simply live my life as usual and then on decision days I get excited and anxious.

Good luck.

I keep thinking that with January ending, some SOMs are finalizing some of their decisions. But, that's just a hunch - no facts to substantiate. 😀

I keep expecting to hear from my first interview school. I've noticed that many here report that their first (and often only) acceptance is from their first interview school. It makes sense.

Note to females: If you're going to be applying next cycle, look at the reports for male/female matriculant ratios at various SOMs. If you see some are male-heavy, apply there (unless state residency is a huge issue). I know of two SOMs that seem to go out of their way to accept a larger number of female applicants (and accept them early), yet still can't get close to the 50/50 matriculant ratio which they desire.
