2012-2013 Panic Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Unfortunately I'll be on campus this summer. I have no drivers license or car so I'm basically stuck here. There's no free clinic where I can get to on foot (no sidewalks here)

Has anyone tried volunteering at a medical student run free clinic? Do they take random people who want to volunteer or can only medical students volunteer?

Waitlist season is a bit slow...Is it just me or has anyone else felt this?

i think I imagined a flood of acceptances on May 15/16th. When the reality is schools are taking their time...bah

Just got accepted off of a waitlist this morning. I had just finished my AMCAS reapp and was beginning to restudy for the MCAT. Keep your head up, everyone! It's slow, but it's not over yet!!

Good luck in med school. Congrats!

Gratz!! I knew you would be just fine 😀

It's strange, the two big waitlist schools (NYMC, EVMS) are only showing a slow trickle...

Congrats, BrettJH!

so It seems WL movement is slower this year.. Is it just that schools are taking their sweet time or that it is simply not moving? haha..

Hello all. I have not checked in for quite a while. Any of the original panickers still panicking? I feel like this thread has become multi-generational.

no longer panicking because I have a good acceptance but waiting anxiously for waitlist movement at my first choice school. Seems like almost no waitlist movement this year, at least so far.

Original panicker checking in!! I probably shouldn't say it so proudly though...😳

My thoughts exactly. As of yesterday 😀

Sigh...I feel like withdrawing all my applications just so I can focus on my reapp but I know it's irrational...

I remember being in this same position and decided to take an extra year in between reapplying because I honestly couldn't focus on AMCAS so soon. I wish you the best of luck!

Some schools' waitlists really start rolling in early June. When I went to NYMC last year, they said that most of their class comes in off the wait list. Don't withdraw just yet.

If I am on waitlists, should I submit FAFSAs to those schools *just in case* there is any movement? 😛

Yes! They will have to send you a financial aid package quickly and they won't be able to do so until you have given them that information.

I know the (only) school I was accepted at has not had any waitlist movement yet. I don't know the reason for that, but it seems really odd to be almost at june and not have any waitlist movement whatsoever. I am also waiting on a waitlist myself, so maybe there is a clog at the top of the system?

I hope it starts moving for you guys!

That's me! Except I got rejected by my 1st choice today, and so now I'm holding out hope for my last WL spot/2nd choice. Ugh.

And for the record, my 1st choice had NO waitlist movement before they consolidated and bumped me off. Boo.

The last day of May and we're now heading into June with no word yet. The glimmer of hope is slowly fading away...........

I'm really surprised its been so quiet lately....

what are the chances there are less people applying to medical school next cycle year thus giving reapplicants like myself a better chance lol

Hasn't the number of applicants been increasing every year? Can't say I expect the trend to suddenly reverse...🙁

I didn't realize schools actually send out rejections to the waitlist...i thought it was more that you stay on until orientation when it becomes obvious that you didn't make it 😵

I think that is true for some schools, and all schools will maintain some sort of waitlist until classes begin. Some are kind enough to shorten that list once they have a pretty good idea what the class is going to be, and don't really have cause to maintain a super long list.

Anyone still holding out hope? I've pretty much accepted that I'm finished.

+1. I have my application complete besides some fine tweaking. Pretty much accepted that I'm hitting send to a bunch of schools on the 10th.

So is everyone here pretty much applying again md/do or considering carribean options as well as back up?

Forget the Caribbean. The coming residency crunch is going to make it even more difficult for Carib grads to get a job after graduation. You don't want that massive debt and no job.

Yea just apply MD/DO. Take couple years to beef up app if you are not competitive at those. Those years will be worth it rather than taking the risk of a Caribbean school.
