2012-2013 Panic Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I hope I get an interview invite tomorrow.. This is beginning to suck
I feel the pain too. No interviews here either.

Stay strong everyone. It's not even close to being over yet

I swear if I get another email from Ross University...

I have them on spam filter, but they're better at spamming than my email service is at filtering.

At the rate this cycle is going, I'm thinking of throwing in an application. 😳

Definitely already started looking at grad school programs. Doing my gap year at Hopkins doesn't help any of this either, everyone already has multiple IIs and some have acceptances. And they always throw the "don't worry, it's still early, everything will work out" line at me. Easy for them to say. Plus I sit on a computer most of the day and even though I try not to, I end up checking email and status sites way too much. Thankfully everyone on this thread understands it. Putting all my eggs in the basket for my one interview!!!

Been complete at most schools end of Aug/early Sept. Been 6-7 weeks. I'm guessing they've read my app but just didn't like it 🙁

Hey guys,

I am sorry that the cycle is going slow for many of you. What I can suggest is what I did at the beginning of the cycle. Since I was getting anxious already wondering if I would be rejected again, re-app last time I got 4 ii, 2 WL, 0 acceptances (also applied fairly late, as in complete at some schools as late as mid December and had a low MCAT score). Back to the idea, I wrote down outcomes A-D from the cycle. Folks might say it is too early to worry but I think that worrying is normal and we should try to be proactive about it. My outcome A was of course getting into my school of choice. Outome B might be what I'd do if I didn't get into any school. You should think about whether you would apply to med-school again, if so what steps would you take to improve your application. Outcome C if I did not want to re-apply to med school. You have hopefully found some other passion that you can pursue and you would be happy with. It continues on like that... writing all my options down helped to relieve some of the tension that I was feeling, even if I still felt anxious at times I would go back to my list and think "ok, there are other things that I could do..."

I hope that this helps and good luck with everything!

Welp, looks like another quiet week. I thought for sure this might be the week I'd hear some good news. 🙁

Now I'm Def panicking a little.... Got an another wait list. I still have three more interviews coming up.... Luckily.

Anybody who was complete mid-September heard anything from anywhere yet?

My only interview invite is at a top ten.

I feel like I'm at that awkward "We like you, but not enough to actually invite you. But we don't want to reject you either because your application isn't terrible and we might invite you later on after all of the better applications are read."

Ditto here for no news from any schools this week. New publication got accepted a few days ago, so I at least have an excuse to spam update letters next week.

I was complete mid-late September and I have 3 IIs from my IS schools, one "eligible for interview," and some silence from others

3 interviews and one rejection this week, not bad! but still no love from my state school. 🙁

+1

I've been complete since mid-August. 3 rejections, 1 hold, and then silence from the others. I'm panicking and already thinking about what I'm going to do with another gap year...

I was complete in mid sept and I got one interview from OOS but other than that, it's all crickets.

FIRST INTERVIEW INVITE!!! I got the call right after I posted here too  This thread is magical :luck:

Congrats dude! Honestly ultra-pumped for you. I don't pray much but I said a 'lil prayer you'd get that Indiana acceptance this week. 😳

...Can I be the new thread patron?

I have no quarrel with you, but think I'm entitled to claim that honor until I'm accepted. 😛

I die a little inside everyday that I do not get an interview

This month has sucked so far.

1 R, 2 holds, 0 II. And that is all I have heard from 20 schools.

YIKES

Whoo! One of the few times I actually felt happy for someone's fortune on SDN. I can't imagine the amount of relief flowing through his arteries right now.

Is anyone else starting to take this personally, a little bit? I feel like I've worked hard, too. But it's still not good enough for these random figures deciding my fate. 🙁

Don't take it personally. There are so many applicants. Just think of the number of personal statements that these adcoms have to read. There has to be an element of chance. All you can do is work hard and keep working hard until it works out for you. Even if you have to re-apply, you will get in eventually if it is what you really want and you continue to work towards your goal. I know it may not be what you want to hear right now but sometimes things take a little more work than we first anticipated. Hard work always pays off though.

I thought that I was going overboard applying to 28 places. Apparently not. Jesus I just want an interview in NY. PLEASE. How many interviews does the average applicant get?

Congratulations rudy/irish football!!!! I've been so worried for you but had a feeling things would work out.....wonderful, wonderful news!!!

Say your PS/LOR were average/ on the weaker side, but you had decent stats/EC's do you think you would still get interviews?

Your GPA and EC's, with the exception of research, are better than mine. I don't think I have great LORs. Maybe an average PS. I have 6 interviews. You barely have any completed schools. Time is your obstacle, not your application. You just have to wait.

Nothing but 2 pre-interview holds here. Also, im a re-applicant.
I'm so bummed...

I have about 27 schools completed- haven't updated, but I completed them between 9/15 -10/6
