Schools haven't really gotten to the mid-september applicants, but I imagine it's a roll of the dice for the nonrolling schools. Depressing to apply at the beginning of July and be "late."

I'm sure it'll work out everyone 👍

Same here, it's like I subconsciously don't want to reapply next year so I'm tanking myself now.

Can I join you guys for a little while? I just had an interview today that I'm not to thrilled about 🙁. Gonna have that gut wrenching feeling for the next 3-4 weeks. Praying to not be waiisted/ rejected as this was my #1 choice.

Yeah, no hanging out on the panic thread when you have an acceptance!

Just kidding TI, I know how it goes. . .

But, just got waitlisted at the first school I've heard back from, and their waitlist never moves so . . .

It's beginning to seem plausible that I won't get in anywhere this cycle. True panic is setting in.
 
Arghhhh waiting to hear back from one of my top choices. Can't. Stop. Refreshing. Inbox. :scared:

i'm in the same boat as TI. very bad interview last week at my top choice. wah. 6-8 weeks of reliving that for me too

6-8 weeks? :scared: My school said we should hear back by thanksgiving or so. Hopefully we get good news!
 
I don't know what's worse..waiting to hear pre-interview/rejection or waiting to hear post-interview.

Absolutely post interview. I wasn't panicing pre-interview, but with 2 wait lists, a rejection, and a hold post interview I'm currently terrified as to my interview skills.

I'd say pre-interview.. at least post-interview you have a very good chance, comparatively.

I'm caught between the two. I agree with the pre-interview reasoning, but I also think that with post-interview you had more of a shot that one of the seats in the upcoming class were for you...

Congrats on your acceptance dude. Haven't talked to my 04/28 MCAT fellows for a while 😀.

Btw, yeah I understand how it feels. I got an interview last week, and only after going home I started to realize there had been too many awkward moments I had and many bad answers I gave. The director said decisions would be out before Christmas, so there's still a while for me to hear back.

I absolutely agree. Post-interview! I've invested so much more in the school at this point. I've had 4 interviews--results: 1 post-interview rejection, 2 waitlists, and still waiting to hear from the last school.
I was so excited to get this many interviews in late sept/early oct., then the SILENCE!
Combine that with 3 post-secondary rejections and 3 pre-interview holds...I've got nothing.
 
So far I have one interview scheduled later this month out of 23. Everything else is on silence!
Can you guys tell me what the awkward questions/bad/tough topics were in the interview session?
Also has anyone seen any communication after the Eastcoast storm - interview invite, rejection anything? why so quite?

Just be yourself. It's painfully obvious when people prepare for their interviews, and you don't want your interviewer walking away from you thinking that they never saw the real you. That, and being overly prepared tends to invite the most difficult questions, so as to throw off your preparedness.

Next: "quiet," but the process takes a long time, and they've all already given out IIs to more people than they plan to matriculate. It could be quiet for months yet. Depending on where you applied, there's a chance you'll hear nothing back.

awkward questions: one that's come up twice now has been when people ask what my hobbies are, i give them 2 hobbies that take up the majority of my free time, elaborate on why they're important/relieve stress etc. then I've gotten this response TWICE now: "That's it?" like wtf how many hobbies am I supposed to have time for? that leads to me awkwardly trying to think of other things that I do and saying "Um hang out with my friends?"

another question: "define professionalism" - i just had a hard time verbalizing this in a coherent way.
 
Post-interview stress is the worst because when they waitlist/reject you, it feels so much more personal. Really hoping for good news from somewhere, but I definitely feel like I've bombed all my in state interviews at the least.
 
Thanks 1289. I think you did good. You are right! how many hobbies are we supposed to have with UG courses, MCAT prep, Applications etc.

Regardless of what some people are saying on this post, I am hopeful that we will get more interviews. The OOS colleges are always late. Is just its too quiet after the storm.
 
I'm like TI (love the acronym BTW) and should be hearing from my top choice before Thanksgiving. Panic!!

That's kind-of a dirty tactic. "That's it?" puts you on the defensive ('proper' answer: those use up the vast majority of my time, and while I do other things, I wouldn't call them hobbies, blah blah blah) and defining professionalism is tautologous. "Traits expected of a professional" "Person engaged in a profession" "a paid occupation".

The best you could go for is that it describes a person possessing the attributes commonly associated with a profession. Or another ~ism, therefore communism, therefore fascism, therefore Obama's gonna destroy the country and all hail King Romney, monarch of the little people.

this was in response to the hobbies question, I used the phrase "i like to __blah blah with my friends." interviewer's response: "So you have a lot of friends?" um..

I know this isn't the "horrible interview" thread and i'm grateful to be in a position where i'm not that i'm worried about this. but dang that was just painful!

I've only been to one interview so I am far from an expert, but when my interviewer said something similar to this to me I tried to shrug it off and make a joke about it. I think that it shows that you can take a comment you weren't expecting and laugh about it. This way it makes the conversation a bit more upbeat. I think it helped me out a lot.

An interviewer asked me if I got "ripping drunk" at 18 and I tried to make joke about it. He laughed at my response so I think he appreciated it.
 
I'm jealous that I'm in no way panicking about entrances to med schools.
 
My response when someone asks my favorite question: "How's the med school application going?"

Was reading Dante's Divine Comedy just now and thought, "Hey, med school apps is kinda like this book. Bunch of people. Some are in hell (rejection), some in purgatory (waitlist), some in paradise (acceptance)."

Don't mean to make anybody feel bad. Just a lol-sy moment in my head.

Edit: Wow, this thread has over 1,000 posts now. Who would've thought...

That's a great analogy, except in this case we can be in multiple locations all at the same time. A rejection here, an interview yet to happen, silence, and purgatory.

(I've been complete for about a month now and only heard from 5 schools. I'm so glad I got an interview though, I just don't want to put all my eggs in one basket and feel like my entire future career is literally based on the outcome of one interview.)
