Congrats! When did you interview, and it was via snail-mail right? Are all rejections/holds/waitlists via email? I interviewed 10/15 am IS and have yet to hear back =/

Thanks! I interviewed on October 3rd, and my parents just got the letter today although it was postmarked the 16th (I go to school in Florida but from Long Island). I'm pretty sure the rejections and holds are by email, but since you interviewed almost 2 weeks after me you should hear back soon. I was starting to get really worried that I hadn't heard anything yet, but I think Sandy just slowed things down a lot. Good luck!

on hold for spring consideration. ugslugds. my interviewer had said there was nothing to worry about and that he was really sure about an acceptance.. i'm on basically waitlisted/holded everywhere, and would be so humbled to get any acceptance right now.

Sorry for the rant, just really really worried. Does anyone know about the chances for an acceptance following a "hold for spring consideration"? Also, does anyone know if going part-time would be a bad idea spring semester?? I've completed all my requirements for my major and my undergrad is really expensive and don't have money to just take random courses. One last thing, how receptive are they to updates, and interests after the on hold status?

Someone please tell me they accept a good amount off of the hold list..... :/

Do you guys think it's too late to send a thank you card to your interviewer a week or 2 after your interview date? Thanks!

I think it's not too late if you're just wanting to say thank you, but if you have any illusions that it might have a slight impact on their recommendation then I would say it is way too late.

Go part time. If they question you about it just make your case - it was the most practical thing for you to do. That being said, you definitely have to fill the extra time with something meaningful.

interview invite! so excited! I go to school like 10 min from here... any advice for the interview? what to prepare for?
thank you!!

definitely use the SDN interview feedback--questions are almost verbatim from there. Beyond that, my interview was very relaxed and conversational. My interviewer basically walked year by year through college and post college, asking me about my experiences, what I liked about different activities, what I learned, etc. I got the usual why medicine questions and also the why NYC, and questions of if I'd be able to live in Brooklyn. But if you're from the area that shouldn't be a problem for you.

I'm assuming you're not staying with a host--but I really enjoyed talking with my hosting students; they all had awesome things to say about DS and gave me insight into questions I should expect and the standout features of the school.

your interview day itself is very simple--you arrive at the office, wait for your interview time (there's a writing assignment that I'm convinced is just for you to kill time with, or maybe someone is doing an experiment, don't sweat it and just follow directions) and then interview, lunch/tour..and then that's it! 🙂

PM me if you have other questions

Hey guys, has anyone who interviewed on 10/25 or after heard anything back yet? I'm not sure if I should be expecting to hear anything from Downstate this week. Thanks in advance for the input, and I hope everyone's app cycle is going well!

Also, for those who were accepted (congrats!!), did you send in update letters of any sort between the date you interviewed and the date you received your acceptance letters?

Has anyone drove there for interview? I will be staying in my aunt's place in Queens, and I have never drove to that part of brookyn before, anyone know how congested the I-278 or Jackie Robinson parkway will be in the morning? Thanks!

I drove to my interview and I did not have any trouble getting there in time. Then again my interview was scheduled at 1:30 PM and I was supposed to arrive by 11:30 AM. So, I had plenty of time in the morning.

I left from my place of residence at like 9 AM, but to my dismay I found out my belt broke :scared:. So, I drove to Macy's and waited for them to open at 10:00 AM. So, I left there at like 10:20 AM and began to drive to my interview, I got there by around 11:00 AM. 🙄

can anyone give hotel recommendations for that area? I'll be there for interview next week.
also if anyone is there on the 10th and wants to check out the brewery let me know. thanks

I interviewed here 11/5....is it reasonable for me to think I might hear back maybe this week?

Interviewed last week of October. Heard back today. Accepted via snail mail!

And yes, I did send an update letter. My interviewer grilled me rapid fire on all the red flags and possible inconsistencies with my application, so I had to send one in.

Congrats!! That's awesome. OK then, maybe I'll give them a call and see if it's not too late to send and update letter in. And thanks for the response!

Just finished my interview, I have to say I didn't expect to like it but I LOVED it. Everyone was soooo nice and helpful. The interview was very short (30 mins) but I really liked my interviewer. They definitely pair you someone from the same background. All in all, a great school with amazing clinical opportunities. Can't wait to hear back!

Which one were you?

Me too! Top choice. Can't beat in-state tuition and the location!!

Why must they keep me in suspense!

Haha I just looked at your mdapp, I'm the one you talked to in order to procrastinate on your essay.

Sounds to me like u were every other student that would listen to me...u have mo mdapps so i cant reciprocate

I am pre-interview I was told I will receive written notification after review,

Does that mean snail mail= rejection?

I don't know if it's 100% true, but I think SUNY Downstate only sends out interview invitations via email... But an email is still technically a "written notification." I think the person who said that you will receive written notification after review just means that once Downstate reviews your application, they will try their best to notify you where you're at in the process either an interview or rejection. Hope this helps!

Oh man I'm sorry to hear that. Is that basically like a wait list? I interviewed 11/5 and still haven't heard back anything.

Not sure, but hopefully they will accept people off of this list

Rejected yesterday via email post interviewon 11/7/12

My understanding is all acceptances go via snail mail, so chances are no news = good news
Best of luck to all

Hi everyone!

I loved this school when I interviewed and was accepted a little while ago!
The people seemed so great and down to Earth, also, Brooklyn has wonderful culture and arts-related things around. Seems so fun, and student body seems all around supportive to one another!

Can anyone describe "bad" or "not so great" parts of SUNY I should be aware of?

I'm a CA student, btw 🙂 who is very excited to make her way out to the East Coast.

Ugh, I Interviewed Oct 25th and still haven't heard anything. Downstate is gonna make me go insane before the holidays, lol.

Interviewed 23rd. Heard nada.

Sent from my SCH-I535 using SDN Mobile

Sorry rjaacd just saw your reply - I am IS.

Someone I know at Downstate actually told me that the majority of acceptances aren't given until the spring after they've had more interviews. Seems like alot of people have been placed on "Hold" recently, so maybe this is better than being placed on hold after a spring interview? Who knows though..

I interviewed here yesterday and I was extremely surprised by how much I enjoyed the atmosphere. Yes, the area is "bad" and the facilities (except for the anatomy lab) aren't wonderful, but the student body seems genuinely happy and super excited about the clinical experience. Also, my interviewer was SO NICE and inspiring. He was awesome.

I'm bummed that I probably won't hear back anytime soon, based upon what has been said about the wait time post interview. I'd love an acceptance.

This may have been asked before, but how do we go about sending TY cards? Can we send emails to admissions and ask them to forward them to our interviewer?

I think that my interview package/folder had my interviewer's contac information - this may have been because I was interviewed at his office though. If you can't find the info in your folder I'd e-mail admissions and ask for your intervierwer's address. They are usually very prompt in responding to applicants' questions. :luck:

Thanks! The interviewer information sheet does not have contact info, just name and title. I'll contact admissions 🙂
