With regards to the rankings, I'm not aware of the school having been ranked at any point in the last 6 years (the time frame over which I have looked). However, I do not believe the school submits all the necessary information to be ranked. So, no, the probationary status has not had any effect on the rankings.

@ 6svette and UpstateBingo, Thank you so much for the info! I think the stormy weather might have delayed the mailing service but I can't wait to get my package in the mail =D

I interviewed on 10/3. Any chance we will hear back from Upstate this week (the earlier, the better}?

On my applicant portal page it says that I have been accepted!! Is this legit? I am freaking out! Has anyone else received this before they got an email? I should probably just call them...

Probably. Where exactly does it say accepted? When did you interview?👍

Just on the portal page... I don't know if you have interviewed at Upstate, but on the portal page they first had a message like "congrats on being selected for an interview." Now that message is gone and it says, congratulations on being accepted and there is a link to pay the deposit.

I interviewed on 09/26, IS, RMSP, 3.9+ cGPA, 31R

I have nothing on that page, which means it is not an error.
Then I believe you are accepted. Congratulations!
I would wait for the e-mail to pay the deposit however.

When you said you have nothing on that page, did your congratulations for being selected for an interview disappear too? I interviewed on the same day and I still hve that message.

Pup did you interview on 9/26 too?

Word to the wise, I interviewed here recently and stayed at Geneva Towers for 55 dollars...worth it, but bring your own blanket because what they provide you is a joke

Nope, I interviewed on 10/3. It doesn't seem like they sent out any official email acceptances/waitlists/rejections today.

well i interviewed a week before on 9/26, and i called them up today and the lady told me that my file was still under review, so I guess they are still looking at us which i hope is a good thing

LOL, yes, also at the motel where I stayed. Their heater resembled a window AC. Why would they have a window AC, I asked myself, when it's about 4 degrees outside? Someone should invent a window heater, I said. Oh, wait...

I check this page compulsively. Anyone else?

I interview 10/24, hoping to hear back this week but I know that would be a quick turn around.

Yeah thats what I am seeing, hopefully we will all hear back soon? Have you checked out the 2011-2012 thread at all?

I was accepted on 10/15 but have yet to receive the acceptance packet. I dont want to wait too long to pay the deposit, hoping it wasn't lost in the mail...

Accepted on the same day and just received the packet yesterday (I'm Canadian).

My friend told me that his packet got lost and he waited until after the deposit deadline to call the office. But the office still allowed him to pay no problem.

I'd say don't wait too long though. You can log in to pay anytime. I paid mine 2 weeks ago way before getting the packet cuz I got so impatient.

Anyone on here interviewing next Monday?! I'm pumped.

hey guys I interviewed earlier this week, thought I'd give some brief opinions:

MMI Format: It was my first experience with this format. Initially, it gave me some jitters. I'm used to settling in slowly with the interviewer, building rapport, and getting deeper into topics. Under MMI, I felt like we were being herded. However, most of the interviewers engaged me very well, which definitely lessened the stress. Some stations were fun, though a bit on the short side. Given the pros and cons of a traditional interview, I feel a happy medium between the two would be best: maybe something like 5 12 minute interviews.

Students: From a sample size of two handfuls of students, they seemed relaxed and friendly. I stayed with a student host which I definitely recommend.

Facilities: The whole tour was conducted in the main, multi-story building (the same one in the MSAR picture). Facilities were clean, and had research, administrative, anatomy, lecture, library; basically everything a 1st or 2nd year needed. Overall, it seemed like a relaxed place to study or chat.

Living: From my understanding, most of the students lived in one of the towers close to campus. All were within walking distance of the campus. It reminded me of a hotel/dorm-like arrangement, in which med students, residents and other health related students lived together. I didn't have a chance to partake in social life, but it seems conducive to a close community.

Syracuse: it's a small city with all the necessities. It's also home to Syracuse University, which was literally a block away from Upstate campus. There are collegey streets with quaint bars and restaurants. It also snows a lot thanks to the lake effect.

so I just rescheduled my interview to November 19th from December 10th because had a final the next day.. so this cuts my prep time.. anyone got any advice on how to prepare for MMI format.

The format is for sure not my favorite.

Honestly, this sounds like a dick response, but I would concentrate most on getting into the successful-interview headspace. Maybe you are still in college and have not had more than a couple interviews of any kind? Do you remember meeting the people you, for example, babysat for in HS? You know, quick chat in their kitchen to make sure you're not dangerous? Or maybe you have dated a lot? (Lord knows I hadn't in college ;-). Think of the successful quick chat with some random attractive guy/girl.

If you can get there, then all the wack procedural stuff that surrounds the MMI will not stress you out too much.

Uh oh. The interview message on my status page is gone. I hope this doesn't mean I was rejected.
Interviewed 10/3

Hey Ive had that missing all morning too, I dont think its a rejection, maybe its just that they are updating servers or something

From checking out last years thread I think the interview status message disappears when your application is being reviewed and typically it precedes the decision. I know it sounds a little weird but there was a lot of talk about it on the 2011-2012 thread.

Just checked my online portal. Accepted!!! 😀

Interviewed on 10/3. I will wait till I get my acceptance email before I send in my deposit.

this has prob been asked before but do all people who don't get an interview get pre-interview hold? Also what does this mean exactly and when are apps looked at again?

Congratulations!

I interviewed on 10/3 as well and seeing how everyone from that day are getting acceptances, I am bracing myself for a rejection.

Did your interview status also go away? I interviewed 9/26 and I have a feeling mine is a rejection too

I interviewed on 10/3 as well and my interview message went away yesterday. So far only about two or three people from 10/3 have posted about acceptances so hopefully more will come in on Monday for the rest of us :xf: . Congrats to those accepted thus far! 🙂

Nope, still have the interview status. Did yours go away?

Yeah mine has gone away since yesterday, its interesting that no one from the 9/26 group has posted anything in regards to their decision if they have got it, or if they even got a decision yet. I am wondering if they entirely skipped over our group 🙁

On last year's thread there were people that had waited 4 days to a few weeks after their message dissappeared to get a decision. I'm expecting something next week.

What I am wondering mostly is that was that usually good news or just part of the decision making process where they are finally looking at the app to make a decision

My feeling is that its part of the process. They probably have to load decisions on the site which requires them to delete the old message.

Don't stress, it's different than a traditional interview but IMO there's not a great way to prepare for it besides normal interview prep.

It actually reminded me in one sense of the MCAT. If you did bad on one passage or section, you had to just forget it and move on. Likewise, if you did great, you needed to have a short memory and focus on the next question. Same idea here.

Just got the invite for Rural medicine. Anyone have info on this? Is there any financial support? I couldnt find any numbers on this program I am OOS far away in Mississippi and trying to decide if I should submit the app. Thanks

My friend, from what I can see, the support is not much--$10,000 if you do the full 9-month rotation in a rural area. That is only what's on paper, though. Who knows if there is additional support? I did not apply RMED because I'm pretty set on "urban underserved" (Lord, I hate the verbiage in this process). My advice is to apply. I was really pleasantly surprised by how much I loved Upstate and I'm praying for an acceptance. (Home state on MDApps is NY for admissions purposes, but like you I am originally from a very different place.)

No one can tell you that b/c we all signed a confidentiality statement and we're not allowed to. BUT, it was really a common sense question, and definitely nothing to sweat about. You have the same amount of time as any other station (I think it was like 2 min to think about it and 6 min to write ). One of those things where they are trying to see if you can say something and give examples about it. I wouldn't worry at all. This was my first MMI and I was kind of nervous, but after my second one (at NYMC), this one was FAR easier/less stressful. Good luck to you, rock it!
