Does anyone who interviewed on Monday remember when they said we would hear? I thought she said next week but that seems WAY too soon...

It took them a little more than 5 weeks to make a decision on my file. Next week does sound WAY too soon.

Yeah I can second this, It took 6 1/2 weeks for me to hear back, but that was also because the director was on vacation and she told us it would take some time. Maybe its faster now, but 1 week is way too soon

She told us 3 weeks, and said for some reason students keep calling after 2 weeks, and asked that we wait a full 3 weeks before calling.

Sent from my ADR6400L using SDN Mobile

She went to Disneyland 😀

interviewed here on 10/31/2012.
3 week mark approaching this wed. keeping fingers crossed for good news.....

random question: anybody here receive an invite from SUNY downstate? I applied to Upstate and Downstate at around the same time, but Upstate got back to me with an invite rather quickly but Downstate still has me "under review"

Yeah I got an II to downstate, it was about two months after I was complete though.

I received an interview invite at Downstate as well. I had submitted my secondary on 7/27 and got an interview invite email on 8/14. That was early in the cycle though...

I got an invite from Downstate about a week later after Upstate

Nothing from Downstate so far. Not that I have the world's greatest stats, but what I do have is a long history of work in direct social services. It would be nice to hear something...

(Parenthetically...is anyone having problems with mdapps login recently? I did password reset, no deal, emailed tech support, no word back. Not a problem per se but I would like to know if I was hacked...) Edit: Never mind--here is the mdapps login problem thread: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=965217

I got my offer to interview from Downstate a couple of weeks after i had interviewed at Upstate. I think Downstate reviews randomly if this helps!

Thank you all for the replies regarding downstate. I suppose I just need to be patient + keep my fingers crossed. I guess the fact that I am OOS has something to do with not getting anything from Downstate so far.

Good luck @longjourney! It's about time for you, I am still thinking I will be waiting for a bit (10/24 interview).

OK, folks, 10/10 interview here and the fateful interview status message has now disappeared. AFAIK this does not mean acceptance...just that we're (I'm) under review. Gevalt!

Interviewed 10/22 IS, Interview status is no longer present as of today. No other updates however...

Oh dear, it's approaching! Good Luck!
I interviewed on Nov 7th. I know it is still early, but I'm dying to know!!!

+1. Me too, I really liked it here, and I think it was by far the most laid back group I've met. The city had a lot more character than I expected also.

That feel when you received a pre-interview hold while everyone else has already interviewed and is waiting on acceptances

🙁

okay, I am still waiting on mine, but you live very close right?

Yeah, I live literally a few streets away from Upstate haha. Some people indicated in this thread earlier that they received their packet two weeks after the acceptance email so I guess it takes some time.

Yeah, I will just have to be patient 😛

In an unrelated question, since you live in Syracuse, how do you like the general area? I didn't have much time to see the city when I came for interview. Is there stuff to do in free time?

I personally like Syracuse a lot. There are all the things you would expect from a mid-sized city plus more since Upstate is pretty much located within the campus of Syracuse University, so it adds a certain college town feeling to it. There are a lot of bars both near the school and downtown, and then there's Destiny USA which is the largest mall in the region. Other than that there are quite a few festivals throughout the year and the NY state fair is in Syracuse!

Just make sure you buy lots of winter gear though. You'll need it.

Thanks for the info, I will definitely need to get winter gear since im from socal. I am excited to come back and see more of Syracuse though, sounds like my kind of town

Yeah you definitely should. Is Upstate offering a second look day?

Not that I know of... but its way to far and expensive just to fly out for two days. I will check it out when I come for a small vaca to new york city 😉

Does anyone know if the number of applicants interviewed went up because of the switch to MMI this year?

Anyone get an II with a 29 mcat? I have a 29q and 3.6. In-state. Submitted secondary in August and was put on pre-interview hold...

Does anybody have any insight about what it takes to change your state residency to NY after matriculation?

My understanding is most students are able to do it by the time second year starts, typically middle of second year at the latest

Thank you for the information. Do you know if establishing a domicile requires purchasing a house? Or can renting a place suffice?

Though not an expert on SUNY requirements as such, I can say with confidence that a rented domicile is still a domicile in this case. Otherwise, I'm laughing but I'm not joking, no person in the five boroughs would be an NYS resident.

As a general comment--again, consult an expert--I do believe they mean domicile (rented or purchased) as opposed to dormitory.

If it were me, other things being equal, I would make a point of signing a lease on June 1st or whatever the first feasible time might be for you, as opposed to coming up 2-3 weeks before classes start and finding a sublet or a room or what have you. Then you hit 12 months of living in-state by June 1st of the next year, which gives you some time to resolve snafus before MS2 fall tuition is due. I am not an expert, I have not done this--these are just my thoughts.

(As a side note, my interview message is STILL gone and STILL no news. Looking at last year's thread, there can be a big delay and still good news to follow, but whooee, this is a trying time. Hang in there, everyone. And congratulations to LongJourney12! This is exactly the kind of person a med school SHOULD be admitting.)

Does anyone know what interview dates they are offering at the moment?

Maybe still offering dates before the winter break?

The director said that they are still only interviewing 750 students this year, but the interviewing process will end earlier this cycle because MMI makes it faster and they are able to interview more applicants in a particular day

That makes sense. There were 32 people on my interview day(morning and afternoon) and that's the highest number I've seen

oh really, yeah we only had the morning interview, so we only had 16 people, but still interview season for upstate should be done by jan or feb
