Man, still no complete email. Starting to get worried! Everything submitted on 7/6...

The first email you receive is for the link to the secondary payment and that comes shortly after your AMCAS file is processed and verified. The second email is a confirmation of payment only. The third email is sent after your payment is received and we mark your application as complete.


If you didn't get the email that your payment was received and your application complete, then by all means call the office or email us to check it out!

What I don't get is how can they mark you as complete without the LORs. Does that mean that your file is already under review even without the LORs?
 
Decided to apply here OOS and sent in the primary this morning. Hopefully I get the secondary soon!

the "complete" email says that interview invites are extended september-february

I believe so. You should get this secondary pretty much the day after you are verified. Of course, this is true for many schools.
 
Another OOSer, got my complete e-mail this morning. I loved this school's secondary (or lack thereof.) 😀

😀 Yeah, it would be the coolest thing ever if we went to the same school. I've actually been thinking about asking you for your schools list, because I'm thinking of adding a few more and I thought you might be able to help me decide which. If you feel so inclined, hit me up with that.

I don't think there's a way to check the status though. Their confirmation e-mail was kind of cryptic with its "Your status will not change unless you are invited for an interview. Interview invitations are extended from September through February. No final decisions will be made until the end of the process in late March." Does that mean even people who get interviewed don't find out that they got in until March? :wow:

That's what I was wondering too. Not hearing back until late March is absurdly late. But I guess that's how they do it in this school 😕

I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding what you are thinking, but just to clarify, March is the LATEST you will hear from WSU. If you end up getting an interview, you will hear back 4-6 weeks from that date.

No.

After you have paid your secondary payment/fee waiver to WSU BSOM you are complete and in review status. Your status will not change unless you are invited for an interview. Interview invitations are extended from September through February. No final decisions will be made until the end of the process in late March.

Any idea when interview invites get sent out? There doesn't seem to be much going on! I've looked in the past thread trying to find when the adcoms usually meet... Any feedback would be appreciated! 🙂

From the horse's mouth: Interview invitations are extended from September through February.
 
I was wondering about the letter of recommendations. Will we even use it in our application if we dont send it in for the secondary? Or should I just tell AMCAS to send in my LORs to the school?

1. Pay the secondary app fee.
2. Designate your LORs in AMCAS to the school.
3. Sit back and wait for an interview
4. ??????
5. Profit
 
Does WSU accept more letters than just the required three?

I will post this in the forum, so that others may benefit from it as well.

As a third year student, I am not around White Hall very much to hear what is going on as far as adcom meetings and such. I am sure that they are quite busy lining up who they will be calling for an interview, maybe as soon as this coming week, after the holiday. The interview day at Wright State is quite relaxed. They will have refreshments for you when you come in, and will have a nice welcome for you. They might show you a couple videos featuring some of the students talking about their experience at the school. You will also have a tour of White Hall, where all of the classes are held for years 1 and 2 and where your interviews will take place. Lunch will be provided and there will be a couple of 2nd year students to come in and answer your questions while you eat. After lunch you will have 2 interviews, one with a med student, likely a 2nd year, but possibly a 3rd or 4th year. You will also have a faculty interview. Interviews at Wright State tend to be more laid back, so try not to stress out too much. It is a great school, and I am sure you will see that if you end up interviewing here. Good luck.

Wright state DOES screen. this is not written in MSAR, but they do. I'm actually really mad that the AAMC has not caught this oversight. (Makes me wonder what else is outdated or just plain wrong in the MSAR.) Anyway, Wright screens based on GPA and MCAT. You have to have at least a 3.0 sGPA and 25 MCAT on any one exam date. Doesn't matter if your GPA is a 2.9 from an ivy league school. A 3.0 from a community college will be screened in over you. Doesn't matter either if your MCAT is a 24 consisting of a 8-8-8. A 25 with poor spread 10-10-5, will be screened in over you. Boo at what some med schools have become 👎. What happened to holistic review??

I found this out b/c I was wondering why they were taking so long to send me a 2ndary since "supposedly" they didn't screen...the lady I spoke to was a complete grouch. Now though I'm glad they screened me out. I wouldn't want to go to a med school with heartless, cranky admins. and I do thank them for not making me pay for a rejection they knew was coming right from the primary. HOWEVER they should have notified me as soon as they realized my stats didn't meet their cut-offs. I shouldn't have had to call. smh...

Yeah.... this just isn't true. I know for a fact that students have been accepted here with GPAs and MCATs lower than what you have stated the cut off is because WSU does make a huge effort to look at the applicant as a whole.

not to sound harsh, but your chances of getting in to an MD school with <25 and <3.0 sGPA are very, veryyy slim (unless you have an amazing story).

if i was in this position, I would rather be screened presecondary, than have to pay the fee only to be immediately rejected (waste of money!)

and...many medical schools do "silent rejections" where they reject your application but never notify you, so you just wait and wait and wait and think theres some hope, but in reality you were out of the running months before...this isnt unique to wright state, be prepared for it from other schools, too!

Just further clarification, I emailed the admissions director and was told that Wright State screens out any MCAT score below 21, not 25. I didn't hear anything about GPA though.

To clarify things...... In order to be considered for an interview, an applicant needs to have a 3.0 or above undergrad science GPA and an MCAT score of 21 or above. If the science GPA is below 3.0 then your MCAT score will need to be 25 or above. The MCAT we consider is the latest one you took and not a combination of multiple attempts.

Thanks for chiming in to clear things up. Is taking the latest MCAT score, as opposed to taking the highest subsection from each attempt, something new you guys are doing this year? Or has it always been this way?

Really? They look at applicants holistically? Clearly your "fact" is wrong. Take a look at what Debbie the admissions officer said. They screen based on numbers- end of story. There is no one there who has stats < 3.0 sGPA AND (keyword) < 25 MCAT.

So for anyone like me, apply elsewhere! You will have a much better chance at other schools, especially if you are URM, in-state, or legacy.

if you have less than 21 MCAT or less than 3.0 sGPA, as i said earlier, you will have a very hard time getting in to ANY ALLOPATHIC MEDICAL SCHOOL IN THE U.S.

This isn't unique to Wright State by any means, but if you cant handle undergraduate coursework enough to have a B- average in your sciences classes and dont understand the science material enough to score a 21 on the MCAT, then what does that say about your ability to handle the coursework/material in MEDICAL SCHOOL, which is much, much, more difficult and much more information..

I understand where you're coming from, but numbers aren't everything and just because the chances are very slim, doesn't mean the chances are 0. So don't discourage people please. The fact that having a <25 MCAT and <3.0 GPA is a bad omen doesn't mean it's right for schools to screen based on numbers AND claim they don't or allow ppl to still pay for secondary apps. I've gotten recruitment emails from GW, UPitt, UMichigan based on my MCAT score, thank you. I've also gotten screened in to multiple places like VCU and UW.

I dissagree that pre-secondary many schools will do silent rejections. Only the schools that will screen pre-secondary will be sending out any sort of decision, which was what my initial comment was based on. Out of the schools that screen candidates, none (other than Wright) in my experience wait to send rejections. It makes sense for them to do silent rejections post-secondary though, because they rank applicants and they don't want to send any rejections in case one of their steller, high profile applicants turns them down for harvard.
