2012 application cycle requirments

Hi, iam a biology major planning to apply next june, iam taking organic II this semester and i have been told by a friend who is planning to apply as well, that dental schools have been lately looking for undergrad students who took biochemistry and inorganic chemistry (not general chemistry) so i am wondering if that's right,,,,,,,,,thanks for help

Yes,

Majority of dental schools prefer that students take biochemistry.. i believe 90% of students that are admitted into dental school have taken it. I myself am applying for this June, but yet to take biochemistry. I will be taking it fall of 2011.

I think dental schools just want you to complete the course before you graduate and enter dental school.. Someone correct me if im wrong.

All schools like to see good performance in upper level bio/chem courses. It can only help your chances to have Biochemistry under your belt (assuming you do well). But look at the requirements for the schools you want to apply to. Some schools actually have Biochem as a pre-requisite to admission. I think Tufts is one of them.

So definitely take it, smoke it, and good luck next cycle.

Many schools, but certainly not all, require a semester of biochemistry. If would probably be to your benefit to take it, even if your top school or schools don't require it. Schools do not require inorganic chemistry. I don't believe a single dental school has it as a requirement, and most people don't take it because you don't have to, unless you're a chemistry major.

That is correct, almost all schools are fine accepting you before you finish your prereqs, as long as you get them done before you start dental school.

I am just worried that i get rejected for not finishing biochem before applying, actually i can't take it this semester because i have to finish organic chem II first this semester then take bioochem next semester (fall 2011)
