Yeah, I'll see you there.

Where are you getting your orders from? Through your recruiter or direct through mail?

My understanding was that we were not going to receive them till early May?

got the unofficial email saying I was signed up for the BOLC class.

Got mine in the mail last week. And I scheduled my flight yesterday.

Thanks for the replies. I must have neglected to check my AKO recently, I received the ATRRS enrollment email on 21 March as well.

I understand we are not supposed to drive if we are over 250 miles out. Anybody else out there who is TDY en route to permanent station? My lease is up end of May so I can get household goods cleared out as soon as I get my final orders to the AEGD location but do any of you know if we will be reimbursed for leaving our vehicles at airport long term parking for the duration of BOLC?

Edited based on USArmyHPSP answer - This answer is only correct if you have graduated dental school and attend OBLC - otherwise you must fly if it is during dental school.

There is nothing wrong with driving there. They will not reimburse you for leaving your car at long term parking for 6 weeks. They will pay you the lesser cost of either the mileage reimbursement, or the price of the airplane ticket. I would recommend taking your car - it's nice to be able to get around.

PLEASE NOTE:

Krmower's advise is to someone who is graduating dental school this spring and is enroute to their first duty station.

If you will be continuing in dental school after BOLC, you are NOT authorized to drive over 350 miles one way to Fort Sam Houston. Should you disregard your orders, and drive anyway, the Human Resource Command will want a very good explaination as to why you drove (becasue I wanted my car, or I was told that a car would be nice - by anyone; the cadre at BOLC, myself, Krmower, your congressman or the man-in-the-moon will not be favorably considered). And, the finance office will probably deny your entire travel voucher which includes the money spent on travel expenses as well as meals over weekends when not in the field.

Gentlemen, thank you for the replies. I would much rather drive than fly so this is good news for me.

Did anyone else get orders to BOLC before starting dental school? I got my orders in the mail yesterday and booked my flight today. I will be starting my first year at Tufts Dental in the fall. Is anyone in a similar situation?
