2013-2014 Albert Einstein Application Thread

Yikes, April already?

Looks like I'll cross Einsten off my college list, since it's looking more and more unlike that they'll interview me...

Another one bites the dust...

I know right! There website says their last interview is April 30...

And yet they take secondaries until mid-February? LOL I'm sorry, that's total money grubbing. Obviously unwise to wait until then to submit but it's also ridiculous to have a deadline in February when they're already into April interviews for applications completed in late September. Most of October-February=pure profits, with the exception of a fill in interview here and there, then?

Yes, but if you choose to apply that late, then you bring the burdens of very low acceptance odds on yourself. AKA, that's your own darn fault. The system makes no secret of its semi-rolling nature ...

Yes, that's why I said it's "obviously unwise to wait until then". However, other schools are also rolling and have their secondary deadlines in mid-November/early-December and actually do give interviews to people who submit in October or November. They pace themselves a bit. This school has a deadline in February yet October and November submissions look beyond bleak.

What's the research environment like? How easy is it to get funding to do independent work or travel to conferences?

The research environment at Einstein is excellent!

Einstein is very well known for their research, and has significant private and government funding for it's research. You can look into all the fields which Einstein is a leader in research.

Getting into research projects at Einstein is super easy - we have affiliations with numerous hospitals, and the school has an Internet portal where you can find out about all the different physicians and programs going on. I was able to get involved with multiple research projects over my summer/into 2nd year!

The school is pretty generous regarding funding - your summer break btwn 1st and 2nd year, the school gives a flat stipend of 2500$ for your summer research! (And if you do global health, as a TON of people do, you might even get more funding)

Regarding going to conferences - the school is also VERY generous about that - I know people who go to conferences all the time, and the school basically covers all the costs. I spoke to some 4th years who told me they went on numerous trips throughout the 4 years, all sponsored by Einstein.

All in all - except resources for research and conferences 🙂

(FYI, I'm a second year here, and think Einstein is a fantastic place!
Feel free to toss any other questions my way!)

Does anybody know if it is possible to schedule an earlier interview than the ones that were given in the II email?

Yup. I actually requested an earlier date than the time frame I was given, but this was because I was going to be in NY for other interviews earlier than the dates they offered me.

Pre-interview rejection here as well, but being optimistic!

Opened my email, saw nothing, then 1 second letter, got the rejection email..

Pre-interview rejection today. The Interview potentials now dwindle....🙁

This had me laughing pretty hard becuase when I see people getting rejected I immediately check my email too and hope that there isn't one waiting for me. Tough break though. Good luck at your other schools!

I feel like I'm in limbo, since people who were complete after me are getting interviews and people who were complete before are using rejection letters. Is it that they're slow sending out the rejections letters or are they using my app as a doorstop until they decide on me?

Congrats! When are they scheduling interviews for?

Thanks! One of my top choices! It looks like the instructions just tell me to provide them with dates in March and April. I don't see anywhere listing any exact available dates.

congrats to you! Well atleast we know that late applicants are getting a chance.

are all these IIs coming through email? Is there a application status check online?

I received mine through email. I don't think there is an application status check.

Also, you have only 1 week to respond to their II. So check your spam folders periodically guys.

Hopefully! It's been killer waiting this long for a decision (interviewed in September).

Does anyone know if they waitlist at all? Or will they just be doing acceptances and rejections on 1/15/14?

Rejected this morning
3.8/37 OOS
Sorry to hear that. E-mail or snail mail? I've been complete since early June. At this point, I assume it's a no, so I'm just wondering if my rejection was somehow lost.

It was an email. I was complete mid-November

Thanks for sharing.

PS- any one else complete months ago with not a peep since?

Yup, complete since early September and haven't heard anything either. I can't wait to edit this post in a few hours and report back a rejection email because I just jinxed myself

Lol seriously. Gl to you.

Any MD/PhD applicants here? Any news yet? I've been complete for a long, long time, and haven't heard anything regarding IIs or rejection.

I almost wonder if this school shoots itself in the foot by not notifying applicants until January. I interviewed in September and it's almost totally fallen off my radar, just since it's been so long.

Same here! I left the interview so jazzed about the school and seriously planning to attend if I was accepted. But now, a lot of that excitement is gone...

I understand the non-rolling nature isn't that detrimental for big-name programs with a lot of prestige/publicity, but for a solid school like Einstein which isn't as well known...I can only think that delaying acceptances for so long is a bad thing in the long run as their admittees receive acceptances at comparable institutions earlier.

But, I'm sure they have a method for their madness. I'm still looking forward to hearing from them in January, just not as much as I was in September. Good luck everyone!

Well, they've been doing it this way for quite some time, and it's worked out pretty darn well for them until now 😉

There definitely is a "method to the madness" and I think that waiting until January before the first wave of acceptances is nice, as it puts things on a bit of a more even playing field for those that interviewed from September-December. It allows Einstein to pick out the most qualified and diverse group of people, which is why we always have such an amazing class here at AECOM!

PS - definitely keep your excitement level high for Einstein. It truly is a fantastic school, and everyone is ridiculously happy here. And no, they don't pay me to say that hahah ;p
