Just an FYI...National Board of Medical Examiners has informed us (sideways) that USMLE transcripts will be available to ERAS on September 25th. Not sure why this is, but I am sitting on many invites until I see USMLEs. I will start invites on September 23rd to my no-brainers, but waiting on many others.

I wish I knew why this was happening. When is the earliest anyone is actually having an interview?

This being the case for USMLE step 1, what exactly are programs downloading when we see that they've downloaded a transcript? Is it just a blank?

October 29 (for med-peds) is my first interview so far.

Our PDWS (Program Director Work Station) is a 1990-era piece of software that displays your ERAS application in a semi-user friendly manner. It can (and does) download all available pieces of an application. Each time I connect to the ERAS server (2-3x/day), it updates with any new pieces. Download time is about 1000 pieces of applications in 10 minutes. Each application might have between 10-20 "pieces".

Yes, but in your prior post you said that you won't see USMLE transcripts until 9/25. Whereas we see that programs have retrieved our USMLE transcript. So how do you explain this discrepancy?

Just an FYI...National Board of Medical Examiners has informed us (sideways) that USMLE transcripts will be available to ERAS on September 25th. Not sure why this is, but I am sitting on many invites until I see USMLEs. I will start invites on September 23rd to my no-brainers, but waiting on many others.

I wish I knew why this was happening. When is the earliest anyone is actually having an interview?

A huge batch of Step 2 scores (including mine) are being released on the 25th. Does this mean that all programs will see my Step 2 score without me having to re-release my transcript first? ut oh. I'm also surprised that so many programs would offer interviews without any USMLE scores?
 
I am not able to explain discrepancies, just telling you what I see on my end. My discussions with other PDs have revealed that at least two others, including one who has discussed this with NBME have experienced the same thing.

As for offering interviews without USMLEs, remember that the exam is one part of the application. Although people obsess over cut-offs and all that, PDs who have been doing their job for a few years know how to read an application so that *some* of them are clear invites. For instance, preclinical GPA almost *always* correlates with Step 1. Glancing at a single score is easier (which is why we like it), but the information you need is often there even without it.

I would say that 90% of my apps do not have Step 1 or Step 2 scores. As I said, I don't know why, just letting people into a view from the PD perspective.
