Applying 2013 for dental school. I am registered to take the DAT on May 29, 2012. DAT scores are reported about 4 weeks after taking the exam which means that the schools won't be getting my scores until the end of June/beginning of July.
My question is... since the 2013 cycle opens on June 4th... Would applying at the beginning of July be considered "late" or a reasonable time? When would it be considered late when applying? August? November?

AADSAS will recieve your scores in about 14 days...they say 4 weeks but they appear before then. Even if you submit June 4th they will not mail your packet until the end of June anyways so you will not be hurt by this date. Late would be considered submitting into late August or September....

I took the DAT July 1st, applied mid July was mailed late July but was not 100% complete with schools due to a late committee letter that arrived mid August and still got 7 interviews...

Can you submit the AADSAS before taking the DAT? I am still working on scheduling for the DAT and would like to do it mid August, but will submit my application June 4.

yes. you may.

However, many schools won't review your application until your official DAT score gets there.
I highly suggest you take DAT no later than mid July.

Let's say you take DAT in August.... Your official DAT score might take up to a month to be sent. That means your application will be reviewed in late Sept. or October which is not a good thing.

Good luck!

Always submit your application as soon as possible. Even if your DAT scores aren't available! It can take weeks for AADSAS to calculate your GPAs.

I'm reapplying this cycle too, and I was wanting to submit my application on the 4th when the application goes live. There are a couple of questions I have though. Will AADSAS send my application before my letters come in and I was wanting to retake my DAT at the end of June and I was wondering if I'm taking it this late if that would hurt my chances of getting in if my application won't send until my scores reach AADSAS?

AADSAS can be sent without LOR's. They just get sent at a separate date. Also, June is not late by any means. Due to delays my app wasn't sent out until end of July and I still had 10+ interviews. A lot of the interviews I attended were the first interview day.

Here's my concern. I finish the Kaplan on July 2. I want ~4-6 weeks to study. If I take it say, last week in July, that only gives me three weeks to study. Would anyone do that? Or do you think I should just stick with the 6 weeks and take my chances? I study well and have been told it's unneccessary to overstudy the DAT. Plus I'm done with Orgo II and Physics this semster and have been skimming through Barron's DAT for a few months.

your DAT just impresses me. Good job

Submitting app June first week and taking DAT end of June is early right ???

Yes. It will still be considered early. Just submit your application on AADSAS in June and your DAT scores will get sent to schools shortly afterwards.

I think the chances of getting Pre-December interviews decline as you complete your application in August onwards. (I took my DAT end of July, and application was completed in late August, and still had 2 pre-december interviews! I got into both of them! I had more offers come rolling in after December, but withdrew from them since I had already gotten into my first choice.)

If you want to *maximize* your chances of getting in because your application is depending on your DAT scores, then you should probably take it sooner. But IMO, May 29 is still early. 🙂

I took the DAT at the END, the 27th i think of july and got plenty of interviews and acceptances. I do not think it was 'late' by any means. Just make sure all your LOR, transcripts, etc are sent early. I sent my AADSAS in early so schools had my whole app and everything. then once i took my DAT they got the scores in less than 2 weeks. Dont take the DAT too early because you are worried about being a week later. A good score is more important!

when can you start mailing your transcripts & LOR's to aadsas?
I know that application itself opens on june 4th.. does that mean we can START mailing it by june 4th?

Transcripts: Will need to give your university/college registrar (whoever is sending the transcripts on your behalf) a "Matching Form" available on AADSAS only after June 4th. So it has to wait until after....still do it as soon as possible, it takes a while for them to process once they get your transcripts + the form.

LOR's: If you are doing it digitally, you can only have your writers/committee upload it after AADSAS goes online June 4th.
