Is anyone else interviewing for faculty positions this year (to begin in the 2013-2014 academic year)? If so maybe this could be a place to discuss.

Good idea!

Faculty interviews can actually be fun, minus the waiting afterwards (since official offers can take weeks/months bc of red tape...and that is in the best case scenarios). There have been some nice openings in the past handful of months, hopefully SDN'ers have been impressing along the interview trail. We don't currently have any openings, but we'll probably be adding a spot later in '13...so maybe I'll meet some of you then! :meanie:

Not a bad idea. "Faculty" is somewhat loosely defined though. Do you mean traditional university types of faculty jobs (teaching primary), research-oriented positions at R1s, or clinical faculty jobs?

In my experience, there is a somewhat predictable application pattern for the teaching-oriented positions and also for the research jobs (generally) following the academic year or grant cycles. However, clinical faculty jobs seem to be open year-round and the hangup is generally more in credentialing.

Well I'm interviewing for a primarily teaching faculty job, but this could be a forum for all three types that you mentioned...

I'm applying right now as well. My research is within forensic psychology but flexible enough to be conceptualized for clinical psych or criminal justice programs, so I'm applying to both. I would ultimately prefer a clinical program for various reasons, but I'm in a dual academic household, so the selection process gets a little trickier.

In case you weren't aware, there's a wiki page of psychology faculty positions. It's not complete by any stretch of the imagination, but you can see updates as to whether some places have offered interviews already. Somewhat like the internship application thread here, it's a nice way to stress yourself out during the waiting!

Extremely helpful website, but has the potential to become just as addictive as SDN when you are on the faculty job market. Use with caution. 😳

FWIW, when I was on the market last year, I needed to get a new hobby to keep myself sane between submitting applications and getting interviews. Try something to keep you distracted!
