I got the same rejection email today. I actually appreciated the bluntness -- in my mind, it's better to know immediately so I don't have that brief moment of hope before reading "We regret to inform you..." halfway down the page. Rip that band-aid off!
Yeah I got it as well, and was fine with the subject heading (I didn't find it rude). I already assumed it was coming given that they sent invites out a little while ago... and it's better than one I received which had no subject heading at all. I like when they indicate what's in the email in the subject heading so I can immediately react (i.e., drop what I'm doing to reply and confirm an interview date or just go on about my day --- though perhaps "regrets" would be better). And I agree with buzzworm re: reading it sooner than having to read half the email until they finally tell you that they won't be inviting you. It's like, let me down quickly -- not make me read this long explanation of how you got soooo many applications etc etc etc. lol ^_^
