I've had several professors and previous intern applicants recommend that you don't schedule interviews back to back, but that seems impossible to do when sites all want to interview during the first two weeks of January! Right now, I've got interviews on the 1/5, 1/6, 1/7, and 1/9. Then a few days without interviews then another week of interviews. How are others planning to cope with back to back interviews? Any strategies are greatly appreciated! =)

Did anyone apply to any sites that aren't APPIC members, so weren't required to list a notify-by date? I'm wondering when it's appropriate to contact them and inquire, if at all? I wouldn't before Tuesday, just don't know if I should at all

I'm in the same boat. Sorry I can't respond to your question, but I hope to hear feedback from others!

Do you know what format the offer was in?

On the first page, it says that a mass email was sent out on 12/3

I haven't gotten a rejection, so Im still holding out hope.

Anyone heard anything back from Aurora Community Mental Health Asian Track?

Ah, thank you for pointing out the Cherokee invite. Somehow I missed that... I'm still waiting as well.

Just when I was losing hope!

What is this "hope" of which you speak? I think I used to know what the concept was but the last few weeks have stamped it out of my heart. Congratulations though.

Mass email sent with no track indicated (didn't even say Dear applicant...) :nono:

Seems that sites are using a template. There is no way several sites have the EXACT same wording.

"We regret that we are not able to offer you an interview for an internship position, and we will not be listing you on our submission to the Match. We had many more qualified applicants than we could realistically interview or rank.
We appreciate the effort you took in applying. Per APPIC policies, we are informing you of our decision before our deadline of December 15 so you can finalize your interview schedule with other programs."

Blerg!

I talked to the Maine TD (super nice) and she said they were meeting at the beginning of the week, so should be Monday!! I know the added wait stinks but I hope that removes some stress 🙂!

Thanks for the update! I'm thinking I won't be an invitee because I haven't gotten any other straight-VA place invites- but it's nice to know nonetheless! .... :xf::xf:

I had to put myself in this position with the new invites I got yesterday. Geographically, it worked flawlessly to do back to back, and it seems worse in the long run to go all the way to one coast, then go home, and then go back out again a couple more times. What I'm *hoping* will save me is that some of the interviews seem to be for a couple hours versus a whole day. I think that should be more manageable than 3 full days in a row.

It seems like we can never do right with this stuff. "You need to apply to 8 million sites and spread them out geographically so you match. And now you have 8 million interviews to do in one month? Well, don't schedule them back to back! What the hell were you thinking?" :eyebrow:

Happy Saturday! Has anyone heard back from either and either way from Rutgers Health Services - CAPS and Albany Consortium (MC)?

I agree- I think it's pretty much impossible to set these up as people suggest. If we had notifications on all the same date, then maybe we could. I have 3 back to back right now, and my plan is to spend more on shorter flights than I might typically so that I can get into the next city with as much time to relax and get myself together as possible. For one of my flights, I had to go to an airline I rarely use that costs more, just because they had a direct connection and a 3 hour shorter flight. That's one way to make yourself less miserable. I'm also prepping questions for each of those sites the week before, instead of the night before each like I usually do.

Totally agreeing with the scheduling difficulties. My worst day is an on-site interview sandwiched between two Skype interviews. Ugh.

Has anyone else not heard either way for Mendota? I know that some email rejections went out 12/5 but nothing yet.
Still hoping/waiting for

I hope everyone is able to relax this weekend and have some fun! 🙂 I have a question about scheduling. I've been scheduled for an interview for one site on Jan 15th, but another site that I haven't heard back from yet has their tentative open house date set for Jan 15th. I'm not even sure I would get an interview for the other site, so should I just confirm my interview with the internship that has actually gotten back to me? Or would it be better to save the 15th for the other potential interview? I hope this post makes sense and thanks for your help!

I got this phone call too! I applied to the General Track.

The funny thing is I didn't answer the call because the intern's number was the same area code as my undergraduate school and I thought they were calling for alumni giving. lol!!! I'm super excited about this one!

Congrats! How long ago did you get your call? Fairly soon after Hopeful PhD or later?

What are you all wearing for shoes when you go on tours if it is snowing outside? I plan to bring a change of shoes but I need to buy some cheap ones that will not slip since I have never lived anywhere it snows. I would love some suggestions. I don't want to fall on my face during the tour, though I am sure it would make me memorable 😉

I agree! I am somewhat androgynous and feel most comfortable in button down shirts tucked in, suit jacket, and pants. Oh...and pack Bandaids! I accidentally cut my finger on a sheet of paper the morning I was getting dressed for my first interview and got blood over my collar. Got it out with water and spent the next 20 minutes blow drying my shirt, which cut into my time for breakfast (scarfed down a ridiculously expensive $20 buffet). So...yeah. Pack band aids and more than one shirt!
I second the more than one shirt. I found a stain on mine as I was putting it on for my first interview - had stain removal wipes but didn't get it entirely out. Fortunately it was cold and I had no reason to want to take off my suit jacket, but definitely made note for future interviews. I also put a pair of flats in my bag for touring after the interview, and was glad I had the foresight for that even though my heels are quite comfortable (consulted with airline attendants before purchasing- a good strategy 🙂 )

I found a pair of waterproof black snow boots on Amazon that don't look ridiculous even though they're not my most favorite thing. They are about $45. I'm going to suck it up and spend the money because I am definitely one who would faceplant on the first patch of ice trying to avoid the slushy gross snow puddles. I'm going to wear those to and from some of the interviews and just bring an opaque travel bag to put them in and stuff into my suitcase or something upon arrival at the interviews.

alright my little frequent flyers, i don't want to check a bag. how are people bringing suits on planes and not getting them wrinkled whilst simultaneously adhering to the one carry on one personal bag limit?:roflcopter:
Fortunately my suit does not seem to wrinkle very badly, and I also packed a travel-size spray bottle of wrinkle releasing spray. One of my classmates has a nice technique where he puts all of his other clothes in the middle and wraps it all up burrito style with the suit on the outside so it does not end up w creases. Seems to work well for him.

Had anyone heard from Children's Hospital of Orange County? I know some people have heard about invites ... however, their deadline (APPIC Directory) for notification was today and I have not heard anything from them. Is anyone else in the same shoes?

Interview invite for Duke University CC on 12/12 via personalized email. Interviews are by telephone only from January 9-26.
By telephone only? I thought they only had one interview date, which was on January 14... but I don't remember now where I saw that and wrote it down, I am assuming on the brochure. I am still waiting to hear from them, and curious whether they've filled January 14 in-person slots with previous invites and are now offering phone interviews to an additional round of people... any insight into that?

Has anyone heard from the Hawthorn Center in MI, or Alexian Brothers (Child/Adolescent track, to be more specific)? Their notification dates are the 15th and 21st respectively, but maybe someone has heard a peep?

Yikes. There will definitely be some exhausted folks stumbling around the airports next month. Personally, I've been cutting back on caffeine so it will have a bigger oomph factor when I need it. HOpe that works out OK for me...

From what I remember, it was always telephone only interviews. January 14 doesn't sound familiar to me. I applied to Duke's counseling center internship so are you referring to that one or one of the medical center positions?
