2014-2015 SUNY Downstate Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Lol, guys, I heard from Downstate 11 weeks after I interviewed. It was the most nerve wreaking experience. The only way to get through it is to get through it. Distract yourself as best you can and don't go on SDN too much

Probably the best advice anybody can give throughout this process is to stay off this site haha. 11 weeks though? That's the longest I've heard to wait =\

I interviewed the week before Thanksgiving, so there were a lot of holidays and snow storms that delayed the process. I ended up emailing them and I got my acceptance a week later.

Oh ok that makes a lot more sense haha. It seems average for acceptance from here is about 9-10 weeks. I'm just nervously checking my inbox for the hold email lol

It was honestly the most relaxed interview I've ever had. Small tour and lunch before the interview (or after), and a writing sample. The day is really short. Interview was 1 on 1 with a staff member. Some people had doctors or deans, I had a researcher at the school interview me. They have a checklist of questions they have to ask and they're all the generic interview questions you would expect. A lot of the interview seemed to be geared towards figuring out how you deal with stress and how you play with a team. Also they liked seeing if you're a well-rounded person. Overall it was a very relaxed and pleasant experience, for me at least. But the general consensus was the same. With that being said, I still do not know if I got accepted or not, lol
Thanks a lot for your feedback, I hope you get positive news really soon! Can't wait for this

Interviewed first week of Feb, hold for spring consideration today.

I'll be withdrawing soon for personal reasons, but I have to say the downstate students were the most laid back and helpful during my interview day. Hope the WL movement starts for you guys soon!

Anyone have an idea on timeline for notification post-interview at this point in the cycle? Interviewed in early March.

I interviewed end of January and haven't heard anything. So I wouldn't expect to hear back anytime soon if I were you. I'd say 6-8 weeks still stands despite it getting later in the season. Just try to keep busy and keep your mind off it

How long after getting accepted did you guys receive your admissions packet? I was accepted 7 weeks ago and still haven't received anything.

I was accepted back in December and haven't received anything...I think what we got at the interview is what we get?

Is anyone going to the annual research day/shadow a student for 4/1? Have you received a confirmation for you attendance? I got the email twice and filled everything in twice and haven't heard anything. Beginning to wonder if this is some sort of april fools joke

Just received confirmation about an hr ago.

I assume you got accepted via snail mail and got the small letter and form you had to send back?

The next packet I received after that was FA info, which came early March and I filled out FAFSA early to mid Feb.

looks like my faith will soon be decided...

Yeah, I'm planning to go. Are you going to stay for the entire day or leave early?

What does this mean exactly? Does anyone know? Is this Downstate's wait list?

It's spring already, isn't it??

Wait list isn't decided until May from what I understand. Hold is really exactly what it sounds like. They're waiting to make their decision. They will re-review those on the hold list and then decide if you will be accepted or wait listed.

I interviewed this month, so should I fill out my FAFSA or do I wait until a decision is made? It can't hurt to just do it right?

Yeah I haven't heard any decision yet after interviewing 8+ weeks ago but I still filed fafsa for downstate like a month ago just to be sure. Definitely do it

Has anyone else's checklist been updated but still haven't gotten any official notification of a decision?

This is the second time I've seen someone refer to a checklist but I have no idea what it is or how to check it? Mind sharing? Also when did you interview?

I'm too afraid to sign up for the official group. I'll stick out like a sore thumb lolol. Is there an unofficial one?
Pretty much everyone joins it, I think - it's used during orientation week (and then never again).

I don't know who's in charge of starting the unofficial one - I'll ask the people who are on committees and things in my year, who might have a better idea. 😛

I interviewed in early March and they emailed me a link to a few checklists that originally consisted of just application stuff.
Here is the link:

But it requires a pswrd and log in which was included in the email...maybe j got this by accident lol but a week after my interview 2 more checklists were added for "accepted/alternative list applicants"

This is really weird, Cause I've never heard of it lol. I interviewed last week of January and haven't had any sort of word from the school on anything

Ah. I hope it's not a sign that I didn't get it..

I don't think so lol. It seems like no one got it. I don't even think I was supposed to get it because I still have as long of a wait for a decision as everyone else I'm sure
