2014-2015 SUNY Upstate Application Thread

Oh gosh I'm going to be frantically refreshing now! Did your portal change to something?
I checked the portal yesterday and I checked again just now, but I still don't see anything about acceptance. Good luck good luck!

I'm starting to think I won't hear anything today/any time soon. Judging from last year's thread, some people didn't get any news for weeks

Isn't it funny to think in about a year's time, people will be looking at these postings to gauge when they might hear back

I never submitted my campus decision (still have time before their deadline) do you think I can get accepted without submitting it?

You should really go ahead and submit that.

At the interview they said that while they could make a decision - and do make decisions - without seeing that, they would not send responses until they received it.
🙂

Hello guys, it's my first time doing a MMI interview and was wondering if anyone could give a better insight of what kind of questions that I should expect? Is it just a mix of ethical, cultural, communication questions? Also is there an acting scenario at the Upstate interview? thank you!

nothing in the way of response yet here for a 9/17 interview. This was one of my top choices. Still hopeful!

Does anyone know if their portal changed when they were accepted?

Any idea how often the adcom meets?

I interviewed on 10/06 in the morning group and I remember them saying something about having an adcom meeting that day (but our group most likely wouldn't be reviewed in that meeting). I'm almost certain they said they meet once a month.

They also talked about dividing the applicants to an upper-tier committee and a lower-tier committee based on their interview score. My memory is a little hazy due to the pre and post interview adrenaline high, so if someone in that group can clarify please do.

feels like no one on sdn so far has an acceptance from any MD school....

II on Friday (10/17)... interviewing on Wednesday (10/22). First interview of the cycle and first MMI ever. Very excited! Wishing everybody else on here good luck too!

Oo I'm interviewing on Wed too ;o also first MMI of the season... #nervous

I'll confirm remembering this too. Once a month, and we're divided into two groups based on the scoring we received pre/post interview.

Just had my interview today! Upstate definitely exceeded my expectations - everyone was wonderful, and the MMI definitely went smoothly (and the interviewers are generally very engaging and friendly)

If you're in the morning group, you start with the MMI interview from 8ish to about 10ish, then you get to sit in on a class / explore the campus (there's an hourish of free time), then lunch and formal tour with med students. If you're in the afternoon group, you do class/explore first, then lunch, then tour and then MMI.

Good luck everyone!

Has anyone thought about calling to ask when we might hear? I'm just so curious.
nah, these things take time, result won't be different either way and can't start school until august
Agreed that waiting is tough, though

I had a recent interview, and Ms. Welch did say they were more behind than they'd want to be at this point. For my cycle, she said we should hear back about 3-4 weeks post interview (though that is probs slightly different for those with earlier interviews)

I interiewed on 9/10 and received an acceptance e-mail this morning. I know two people that also interviewed on 9/10 and they were accepted last Thursday, 10/16. With only that anecdotal evidence, it appears that they're not waitlisting at this point.

yea I know people from the first week of interviews who were accepted, too. Not sure if I haven't heard back yet because I was at the end of the month or because I've been waitlisted
