Hey guys,

For that question, it's saying those facultative anaerobic bacteria do not require O2, but grow better when it's present. Shouldn't it be grow better without it's presence?

In Fer's notes, it says *Facultative anaerobes can tolerate oxygen presence but don’t use it; obligate anaerobes cannot live in presence of oxygen

Thanks for any help! 🙂

I just finished microbiology this past semester! Ecoli is a facultative anaerobic bacteria. It can respire in the presence of O2, but if not it can just ferment.
Using O2 is much more efficient in terms of resource usage (more ATP via respiration). So yes, they grow "better" in the presence of O2
