2014 Pharmacist Workforce study has been released

Some interesting responses:

  • In 2014 42% of respondents were male vs 57% female, in 2009 there were 53% male respondents and 46% female
  • In 2014 nearly 60% of chain pharmacists say the workload is negatively affecting their mental health compared to 42% in 2009 and 33% in 2000. (pg. 68)
  • In 2014 about 80% of chain pharmacists say high workload is affecting their ability to take adequate breaks, this compares to 65% in 2009 and 62% in 2000. (pg. 68)
  • 75% of independent pharmacists have high levels of job satisfaction vs %46 of chain pharmacists and 68% of hospital pharmacists (pg. 109)
  • 29% of chain pharmacists reported it would be difficult or very difficult to find a more intellectually challenging job in the next year vs 47% of independent and 52% of hospital pharmacists (pg. 124)
  • 61% of chain pharmacists reported it would be difficult or very difficult to find an acceptable job alternative in the next year vs 19% in 2004, the corresponding percentages for hospital pharmacists were 77% and 35% (pg. 124)
