Hey there, Docs!

So.... I'm really worried about getting into Stanford or an Ivy League school.

Stats:
3.9 GPA
scored 91% on the 2015 MCAT
almost 5 years of research experience
double majoring in three years
Hispanic
"disadvantaged"
.... conduct violation at an advanced high school program (I know, deal breaker. Right?)

What do you guys think?

And what did others taking the 2015 MCAT score? My numerical score was not very satisfactory.... (514)

"Stanford or an Ivy League" implies OP already knows that. Be cool.

OP, you look really strong to me! Even if you have a conduct violation, that was in high school, right? It looks like you've shown a lot of progress since then. I think your chances are good. But I also kinda want to encourage you not to worry about getting into a top school. All medical schools are excellent. I'm sure you'll be accepted somewhere really fabulous, even if it isn't technically Stanford or an Ivy. Good luck! 👍

@Cotterpin: Thanks! I hope you're right.

@GonnaBeADocOneDay: Yup! Been working in a translational medicine research lab for three years now, volunteer at the downtown hospital, shadowed a neurosurgeon, worked as a biostatistics teaching assistant.

It sounds like you are fine. Make sure your clinical experience is up to par. Also a lot of the Ivy medical schools are not even ranked that highly if that concerns you so much.

University of Michigan is ranked higher than most Ivies.

UCSF is ranked higher than all Ivies except Harvard.

There are more important things to consider.

Stanford isn't an Ivy League.
That's why OP differentiated the two. 😉
He made that post before OP edited the original! I am guessing he originally wrote something like "an Ivy League like Stanford"? And as someone with a Giants profile picture it makes sense that he needed to clarify Stanford's position haha

Ivy only means among the best for undergrad.

Your odds of getting into Stanford or one of the prestigious Ivy (Harvard Yale Penn Columbia Cornell) aren't excellent with the equivalent to an old 33, as their 10th percentiles are around 32-33, though being URM and low SES gives you a fighting chance. Do you have reason to think an MCAT retake would show a few points of improvement (were your practice test scores better)? If not, you'll need to apply more broadly than Top 10-20 to a handful of places a 33 is considered strong
