They usually teach the HCl and others as exceptions to the peroxide antimarkovnikov rule. At least that's how I learned it.

Yes, just remember only HBr/ROOR add anti-markovnikov and what helped my remember that it adds anti-markovnikov is Chad's saying that the ROOR(roar) scares away the HBr from the normal markovnikov.

The anti-Markovnikov addition is EXCLUSIVE to HBr. If HI or HCl is added with peroxide,,,,,it just goes the regular Markovnikov way. If one was to examine the thermodynamics of the steps involved,,,,,Addition of HCl and HI are too endothermic,,,,,and too costly... Only HBr addition is exothermic and works !
