2016-2017 Wright State University Application Thread

We will see them all, but the most weight goes to the most recent MCAT score.Hello! I was wondering if someone could comment on how Wright State views multiple MCAT attempts. Is the most recent given the most consideration? Highest score? Thank you!
Thank you so much for clarifying! We will see them all, but the most weight goes to the most recent MCAT score.
Is volunteering in an ER volunteering for medically underserved?
Nope... unless you were at a homeless shelter ER, one in a low SES neighborhood in the inner city, or in a rural area, etc.Is volunteering in an ER volunteering for medically underserved?
does the school send out secondary to applicants before their amcas are verified?
NOPE!
I understand why WSU would want to make all final decisions in March, but considering that other schools require deposits within weeks of acceptance, this could cost an applicant a big deposit amount, like $1,000 in some cases, if he/she has to accept an offer from another school earlier in the cycle just to save a seat.
I would still love to attend here though.

I had the same misunderstanding when I read that. It means that your status will not change to rejection until the end of the process if you did not interview. The only rejections that will go out before that are applicants that did not get a secondary or ones that interviewed and then were rejected.
If you are interviewed, you will know the decision within 6 weeks.

I guess I missed that. But that sounds much better! Thanks for the update.
anyone know how heavy the pre-secondary screen is? I just got the secondary this morning and was planning on completing it today and I know they screen MCAT and GPA, but I was just curious to know if a majority of students end up getting the secondary or not, etc. Thanks 🙂
What were your stats? Cuz I also don't want to apply if they just send a secondary to everyone (essentially just taking our money for secondary) knowing they wont send II/acceptance..

3.5/3.4/501. Not great stats. Trying to be particular about secondaries since I'm running out of money very VERY quicklyWhat were your stats? On MSAR, the median stats for Wright are 3.7 cGPA, 3.6 sGPA, and 30 MCAT. You want to be as close to or above the median as possible for at least one of the categories. Your stats are above the 10th percentile, but aren't near the median. Since the secondary is relatively cheaper than the secondaries for other schools, if I was in your shoes, I would apply anyway and hope for a Hail Mary.3.5/3.4/501. Not great stats. basically what I was doing lol. I'm very hopeful for DO but I wanted to apply to my state MD school too and decided to throw in a couple more MD schools as a hail mary so we'll see. I don't have super high hopes but there's no harm in trying hahaOn MSAR, the median stats for Wright are 3.7 cGPA, 3.6 sGPA, and 30 MCAT. I think you will be fine for DO, and as for MD, you never know. Wright mentions on their website that they incorporate other factors (volunteering, maturity, etc...) into their decisions. Maybe you have what they are looking for and will forgo your chance by not applying.basically what I was doing lol. Go everyone and thank you for all the answers Debbie!
If I am waiting for my second MCAT score to come out (first was the old MCAT and pretty low...~50th percentile) should I still submit the secondary? I'm worried they'll reject me without seeing my new score!
Volunteer for medically underserved --- does it have to be clinical? I volunteered in medically underserved communities but not in a clinical setting.

We review applications without letters. The letters do however need to be received before the Committee will vote on an application after interview.
Hi Debbie,
Thanks for taking the time to answer questions! So i guess here's mine. Does this mean that lets say the commitee is unsure about offering an interview, but can upon the reciept of the letters change their mind?

@macdeb59
That's always a possibility, and why no final decision are made until the end, unless of course you have interviewed then you will get a decision in roughly 4-6 weeks.
Yes, they are reviewed in order, with Ohio residents being reviewed a little earlier than Out of state applicants.@macdeb59 Are applications viewed chronologically from the time we are complete?
Ipso facto, a desirable out of state applicant who was complete mid-July will hear back sometime closer to October?Yes, they are reviewed in order, with Ohio residents being reviewed a little earlier than Out of state applicants.
If it has been a while since you were process/verified and have not received a secondary please email me ([email protected]). We are up to date in sending secondaries out to applicants. Remember that we do a quick screen of MCAT score and GPA in order to get a secondary. Also check in your SPAM folder.

I go to UC, but I live really close to Wright State. One of my top choices as well. Good luck to you and me 🙂
Hi; does this school accept update letters? As in if I began new activities since submission of my primary in June, how could I go about adding the new activities since one cannot edit the primary app? Thanks in advance

^Not 100% sure, but I thought I read that they don't accept updates pre-interview.

Does anyone know someone that got into wright state with a 499 and 3.5gpa 3.4 science?
That is significantly below their 10% percentile for MCAT.... being URM/Veteran maybe but besides that would have to have a very compelling application.... (I am not part of the admissions team, just my 2 cents 🙂 )
edit: The 10% is 25.... which I think is close to a 500? So maybe not too far off a stretch with a good application!

I applied last year. I'm from michigan so I thought I would try because it's in the midwest, but I should have asked before I reapplied here.
