I was thinking of applying to Toledo MedStart's program and the application opens up in a few days. I saw the stats on their website but I wanted to know if any SDers had gone through the MedStart application process and if they have any pointers. Also, since I am out of state, I wanted to know if I should expect an interview with my current stats: SAT - 2070, sGPA - 3.93, cGPA - 3.87 at a top 25 university. I also TA and tutor Organic chemistry, have a publication and a poster presentation for my neurobiology research, am a peer advisor, and do research at my institution to name a few things.

Thanks for taking the time!

Do you have any volunteering?

Your SAT is on the lower side based on previous accepted averages. Other than that, no harm in applying.

Does anyone have thoughts on Toledo's med school in general?

What's the point, if you don't mind me asking? You wouldn't be starting/finishing med school any earlier than someone going to med school right out of college.

With a 3.93 sGPA from a top 25 uni, you have a good shot of getting into school that would provide better resources and you may have a shot at scholarships. No reason to limit your choices in exchange for no benefits

Don't have to take MCAT, don't have to spend lots of money on secondaries/interviews. Main reasons.

Not a med student but I go to Toledo for undergrad and know a good amount of med students. I would say the school is pretty good, the hospital is great. The area is average and the city overall is very poor. However UTMC is right on the edge of the real Toledo and the Ottowa Hills Toledo (median income 110k+) so you get a wide array of patients. Pretty cold in the winters if that matters for you. Match list pretty good. Match Day Results: 2017

Most students might still end up taking the mcat since you apply to this program at the start of your junior year.

Yeah I believe we hear back before we would have to take the MCAT which is a reason I am going for it. However, I will still have spent a good bit of time studying for it before I know if I am accepted or not. Still going back and forth on it, but if nothing else it will be good interview practice if I get that.

Just got an interview!

Does anyone know what their interview/acceptance rate is? It doesn't mention the percentage of interviews that turn into acceptances on their application site.

Congrats!

No idea about percentages. Keep us posted during the process and overall app experience if you can.

Thanks very much! I'll definitely keep everyone posted as the process goes. If nothing else, this has definitely been a nice little confidence booster.

Based on OP's most recent posts, OP is prep'ing for June 2 MCAT and AMCAS app, I'd say the dream busted.
