Hiii everyone! I thought I would make a support thread because now knowing how long the cycle is this cycle feels like it’s moving SOOOO incredibly slow. It’s too early to freak out I know but I definitely am feeling stressed

It definetely feels like it is running slow. I want October 16th for RD decisions and January 31st (My Pittsburgh decision) to just get here so I can know where I am accepted/waitlisted/rejected. Hoping to see you get an MD interview soon!

I had a question for those fellow re-applicants. I am interviewing again at a school I was waitlisted for last year. Do you think that is something I should avoid bringing up in the interview? Any tips for doing better the 2nd time?

If the school is reinterviewing you, it shows that your last interview didn't show any red flags, but perhaps was just not up to par with other applicants last year. I wouldn't bring it up, but I would come prepared with an answer about how you've bounced back and improved since your application last year. Think about responses you gave last year that were less than desirable if any come to mind. Congrats on the DO acceptance future doc!

Hey guys! I had a question - I took my MCAT kinda late (7/26) so I submitted my MD secondaries 8/27 to mid September. I know that's considered late so I'm already pretty stressed about it. Also I haven't received any II yet. When should I start freaking out/planning for another gap year? Is it still early in the cycle for most schools or are they done sending out like 75% of invites? It depends on your stats, school list, and activities. I’d say about 40-50% of II have gone out. If you give a brief description here or post a WAMC in that thread you could get some expert responses from adcoms on here.

So I finished my first year of a 2-year SMP with a 4.0. Hoping to continue that for this year too. My undergrad GPA was sub 3.0. My most recent MCAT was 511 (improvement from 489). My activities include RA, MA, etc. I was an informal caregiver to a family member in India, and also organized medical camps in India. I have other clinical and volunteering experiences as well.

I am a reapplicant (518, 3.86) who is not having any success getting II this year as well despite having applied to 52 colleges. Last cycle I applied top heavy and thought that might have been the reason (got 1 II=> WL =>R). Despite applying broadly this time, I'm not getting any interest even from my state schools. I was wondering if anyone could help direct me to any sources for support on how to proceed from this point. I'm not financially well to do and am currently working as a MA at a non profit clinic for minimum wages and dreading the cost of another unsuccessful reapplication cycle. Any guidance will be much appreciated. Thank you!

Consider making a post in the WAMC (What are my chances?) format which gives others something more concrete to work off of. I kept up many of the same activities through my reapp. Sometimes all it takes is reframing your activities with better writing towards a clearer vision. The fact that you got an II last cycle shows that you are more than capable of becoming a physician.

@ssk2023 That's probably the weakest area of your app. The tutor for low-income students is great. But the STEM outreach club, probably not as much. Showing service to underserved communities and individuals less fortunate than yourself is important. What was your school list?

Agree, I think anything under 100 hours is looked at not very favorably by adcoms, but other than that everything else in your app looks solid, especially the clinical hours. I don't think you have to do anything transformative if you have to reapply, seek out a long-term service commitment and at least 2 peers to get feedback for your writing for next year. Do you have to retake your MCAT? That might be the most difficult part since you're working full time.
