An applicant expressed interest in seeking out others to read over their personal statements/VMCAS essays, and this thread hadn't been started for the current cycle yet, so I figured that I would go ahead and get the ball rolling.

To applicants: You can send a PM regarding your essays to any of the members on the Current Readers list! Just the click the mail icon next to your username on the top right navigation bar/menu, and select "Start a new conversation". Then, type the username(s) of the reader(s) who you'd like to utilize in the Recipients box.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

To readers:

DO NOT ERASE THESE INSTRUCTIONS!

1) Quote the most recent post.
2) Add your SDN username, your credentials, and specific things you are willing to edit for (content only, grammar only, etc) under the "current readers" section. DO NOT post your email address or any other identifying and/or public information.
3) Remove the quote tags.
4) If you are unable to read any more personal statements, please come back and remove your name from the list.

Example:
Username | Vet student/Pre-vet/Veterinarian/whatever | Focus on grammar/readability/content, etc. | Any other pertinent info

CURRENT READERS
Elkhart | Former vet student, c/o 2020 | I can help out with pretty much anything, but am particularly proficient and interested in the nitty-gritty mechanics of writing: spelling, grammar, basic flow, sentence structure, etc. I'm probably best utilized as a final proofreader, though I'm also willing to provide pointers on how to trim the fat in your statement so that it doesn't exceed the VMCAS character limits (considerably more difficult than it sounds!).

grebes4lyfe | c/o 2023 | Very good with proofreading for grammar and readability. I can also help you cut unnecessary characters. Fair warning, I will be blunt. I can help with content to some extent, time permitting. For content stuff, feel free to reach out and I'll see what I can do (never hurts to ask!). If I don't have the time I will be upfront about it (better to just tell you that I can't look at it than tell you that I will try and never get to it). I will probably be most helpful in the mid to late stages of writing, not in the beginning stages so much.

Dinashadow | c/o 2023 | Talk to me if you need help with content/fleshing out ideas/brainstorming etc. I'll be most helpful if you need help getting started or laying your ideas out on paper. I can certainly do grammar, sentence structure, and final proof reading as well (but it's certainly not my strong point). My week sometimes gets a little crazy so if you need something ASAP I'm probably not the best person to ask.

CDN-Prevet (needs an update clearly lol) | Vet student c/o 2023 | I can focus on anything you need me to but most importantly, I like making statements unique and personal to try to avoid blending in with the others. | I’m free for most of the summer so I’ll be more available now but I can probably do some starting in September as well.

dogluver713 | Vet student c/o 2023 | I work in speech development for college freshman, so I really enjoy telling stories. This past year, I've done a ton of editing for my friends applying for med/pharm/dental/PA school and would love to help more vet students! I'm free right until VMCAS closes and will try to have quick turn-around. Send me a message with a completed draft, and we'll go from there!

ziggyandjazzy | c/o 2022 | Will only be able to help from the second week of august onwards but posting this now so I remember. Best at helping your answers be cohesive and making your voice/story strong. I tend to err on the brutally honest side of things (but not rude!).

Unfortunately, between working well over full-time at two jobs and school, I've found myself stretched for time and I'm going to remove myself from the list. I know a couple of you who've contacted me are still waiting for feedback, and I still fully intend on getting back to you within a few weeks, but I'm not open for any more requests after that.

Good luck to everyone applying this cycle.

I tend to err on the brutally honest side of things (but not rude!).

that redhead | veterinarian c/o 2015 | I’ll read whatever you’ve got and give you my feedback.

imdyinscoob | c/o 2023 | I’m good at finding grammar/syntax errors and correcting passive voice. I can also help with content/cutting out fluff. Show me what you have and I’ll do my best! 🙂

With school starting really soon I will be removing myself from this list, but I intend to get back to the ones I have currently agreed to help 🙂

Good luck everyone!

CURRENT READERS

grebes4lyfe | c/o 2023 | Very good with proofreading for grammar and readability.

My week sometimes gets a little crazy so if you need something ASAP I'm probably not the best person to ask.

princessbuttercup | graduate student c/o who knows | I have a BA in English and currently do a lot of science writing for grad school. Editing is my jam. If you need help with grammar or tone, send me a message and I'll help you polish things up. Please plan on this taking 1-2 weeks. My life is consistently crazy.

Since school is starting next week I’m gonna remove myself as well, but if you’ve already messaged me I’ll keep helping y’all out!

Sorry guys removing myself too. Moving in this week and starting school next week. If you’ve messaged me and I haven’t replied, this is why.

Will finish up the remaining ones and then I won't be able to help anymore. Hopefully I could help some of y'all 😛
