Hello all!

Sorry for the radio silence on SDN; as we open our admissions cycle, there are lots of moving parts and with a small staff, we have to shift priorities. Early Decision interview invitations will start to go out today. Those that will be deferred to the regular pool will be notified this week.

Excited to meet our prospective Class of 2030!

Will the ED interviews get sent out this week in one batch or certain number per day?

@FSUAdmissionsOffice

Is a low 500s score (like say 502-505) too low to be considered for an II if everything else on the app is a otherwise decent fit? I am retaking my MCAT but I'm not sure if my current score will screen me out

Any advice is much appreciated 🙂

I am in a similar boat as you. I wish I could tell them that I got food poisoning during the second half of the test without it sounding like an excuse. They say they do not screen out if you are above 498 but they have their average scores public for a reason 😕

I hope our holistic-ness and mission fit override being slightly below the 10th percentile 🙏

Has anyone from ED gotten an email that they are deferred to regular decision? Haven’t received any emails just silence

Hello all,

Early Decision interviews have concluded and all ED applicants should have received communication from our office with instructions. Regular Cycle Interview Invites started last week and will continue going out every two weeks or so until end of Feb/early March.

Thanks everyone!

For reg applicants, has anyone received an interview yet

Does anyone know if we will be speaking or just listening during the informational session that’s the first day of the interview? I’m trying to figure out if I need to be home for that or if I can be somewhere else that would be more convenient with my work.

We have already sent out two rounds of regular cycle interview invites, with the most recent having gone out this week.
They could be slow this year as i saw a previous note from @FSUAdmissionsOffice that they are understaffed.
We are understaffed, but following our normal operating practice of inviting every two weeks or so.

Applicants are highly encouraged to contribute to the discussion on information session day as the sessions are structured as Q&As. In the informational packet, on our website, and virtual interview best practices all say to be in a quiet, distraction free place.

Thanks for the questions everyone!!

Hey @FSUAdmissionsOffice! I'm not sure if this is a question you can answer, but how does the admissions committee view re-applicants who have received an interview and got waitlisted last cycle? Do they have a fair chance of receiving another interview?

Received this email today but submitted my secondary weeks ago. Should I be concerned? I haven’t done anything to my application since. My LORs were submitted to AMCAS and assigned months ago. Application was waived.

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to complete your application to the Florida State University College of Medicine. This is to notify you that your application for admission to the FSU COM is complete and no further action is necessary on your part…”

The answer will be "Has there been a significant change in your application and accomplishments since your last cycle", and how your current application stacks up against the other applicants in this cycle.

Hi! I’m an in state applicant and really interested in the Bridge program at FSU. I know you can’t apply for it and there isn’t really a lot of information online. Are there certain things on an application that can allow you to be considered for the program?

Hi,

While we appreciate you wanting to help other applicants, please do not answer for us as this can cause misinformation.

Hi there,

Good question! When we look at our interviewed re-applicants, we are looking for those who sought out feedback, then took that feedback, addressed holes in the application and have clearly learned from their gap/growth year. We pay special attention to the question on our Secondary that asks specifics from re-applicants who have interviewed previously. I would say that as long as they address the issues that kept them out last cycle, they have more than a fair chance of receiving another interview.

Hi!

Glad to hear you are interested in the Bridge Program! We are looking for students with EXCEPTIONAL mission-fit (demonstrated interest to practice primary care, SES disadvantaged/first-gen/rural/panhandle, high numbers of community service, lived experience, patient-centeredness), with a strong academic record (Avg GPA: 3.7+; BCPM GPA: 3.7+), but may have struggled on the MCAT (range 495ish-502ish). Candidates for the Bridge Program are identified from the regular pool.

Thanks for all of the questions!

If your application fee was waived, your application may have just been processed as the waivers take some time to go through our system. This is a good thing; your application is not ready for review.

Hope that helps!

Hi everyone! Any successful matriculation stories for anyone who has taken January MCAT and applied same cycle? FSU is one of the few schools that will accept a later test date for current application cycle.

Hi all! Any recent news? Anxiously waiting but it’s been pretty silent

Anyone expecting to hear back today post II not hear anything? The suspense is getting to me.

Has anyone been offered a spot in the bridge program yet?
