Hey i have applied to 24 schools already. I am not sure if I should apply to more schools to increase my chances. I already took an year off, and i dont want to wait another year to apply again. Let me know what you guys think. thanks for any input ahead of time.

School:
University of california Irvine (bio) : 3.46 (0verall), 3.6 (science)

Dat scores:
Pat : 18, QR 18, RC 19, Bio 20, Gchem 21, Ochem 22. AA 20, Topscore 22

Research and experience:
-did some research for couple years
- have over a thousand hours ( work at a dental office)

i think what you've done already is called overkill

Not a problem if u have the cash. I do, and did the same thing.

Play safe and apply to 45 schools  j/k

wow it is A LOT MORE than enough. I can't even imagine the $$$ you are going to spend! people think its just one time app fee but what they dont realize is that after this you'd have to pay for 2ndary app and if they give u an interview then u will have to pay for plane tickets, hotels etc. so it all adds up.

I didnt think 24 schools was alot...ehhh. funny thing is this sis a more condensed list of schools...lol

let him, if he has the cash!

there are some school that don't take OOS.

You know that when a school downloads your AADSAS they can see every school you've applied to right.....

Wait, really? can dental schools see which schools i applied for???
So, that means appling for many schools wont look good for admission...?

I don't see why this would be true. When you go to print application that part of the application is not visible. I heard that it is private information and they could ask you about it at interviews maybe, but you could definitely explain or give a more general answer.

everyone thinks that adcoms go through this intricate process of analysis before accepting students. Really this is not true for most schools. Interviews are usually given out by the dean of admissions based on DAT scores and GPA ONLY, if your above their cutoff you got yourself an interview. From there the adcoms interview you and usually during the interview this is when the skim through your app. LoE's from what I'm told are rarely read fully if at all and they really don't discriminate based on petty things like "How many schools did he appy to". Almost all adcoms have a private practice as well and alot of them are retired volunteers (e.g. Nova). Don't worry so much. You'll be okay

So they dont care about the non-numerical aspects of your application till after the interview?

you should be fine with your scores and dat. BUT, there are people that don't get in. Ifyou want to play it safe, have the cash, and have done your research go for it.
My parents paid, i was applying late, and my GPA wasn't stellar, so I did about 24 schools. I got 3 interviews and 3 acceptances.

It cost me about $4000 to $5000 total. That is with the AADSAS fees adn school fees. It might be a lil more than that if you include travel expenses for interviews and such.

Good luck!

also, make sure you eliminate schools that don't take out of state applicants. I applied to one of those and one that took maybe 3 out of state and it was a waste of money.

Darn it, K. We better take that X-ray class and start earning money now😀

thanks for all the tips fellow sdners. and ucla2134 i dont know who you are

every school is gonna see where u've applied! and its gonna look bad for u!

u've got very solid numbers and you'll be fine; apply to 15 i'd say...

I believe its around $200 for the first school and then $60 per extra schoool. This is hte aadsas fee.

THEN, each school has their own "processing fee" --that has a pretty wide range depending on what schools you are applying to.

20 schools cost close to 1500. Then add the school fees. Then add travel expenses to visit the school (hotel, flight, gas, wahtever). Flight will cost more if you book it last minute which I did for all of my interviews except 1.

For me it was worth it because the 3 schools I got interviews at I never thought I would hear from and almost didn ot aply to... one of the schools i added last minute after i had already sent al my other applications. So, I see the money as worth it because I wanted to play it safe and didn't awnt to take a year off.

Good luck!
