I got a 25Q on my MCAT (first one), and received 8's in VR and PS, and a 9 in BS. My overall gpa is 3.78 and major gpa is 3.89 (bio major, chem minor). I graduated from a state school, nothing special.

My EC's

1.) Working over 3 years for a plastic surgeon in her office. I do mostly office work, but also scribe during minor procedures and assist with whatever she needs done. This is more of a shadowing experience for me because i am called into the room whenever there is an interesting case, she is constantly explaining everything to me, and i am included in all her life details. It is a truely amazing experience
2.) Competitive Dance Team member for our univeristy for 1.5 years
3.) Volunteer at hospital for 1 semester
4.) Volunteer at animal shelther on and off for the past couple years
5.) Teaching assistant for 1 semester - 2 bio classes
6.) Endocrinology Research for 1 year, no publications...just helping out a grad student with basic procedures
7.) Red Tassel Mortar Board member- 1 year, where we did various volunteer events such as habitat, raising money for charities, etc.
8.) Secretary of Golden Key Honor Society- 1 semester
9.) Camp counselor for 5 years
10.) Other various volunteer events such as being a holiday party coordinator for the boys and girls club
11.) Mentorship/shadowing an opthalmologist- 1 semester

I am applying for the 2010 cycle and will apply as early as possible. Should i retake the MCAT? Or do you think 25 is good enough with my good gpa and my EC's to get me into either Rush, Loyola or UIC?? I am stuck on what to do. Thanks everyone!! 😳

Your ECs and GPA are excellent, but I don't think Rush or Loyola will accept you. However, there is a small chance at UIC. As it happens, I know someone with the same MCAT score of 25, nicely balanced, as yours is, who was accepted there. She had an amazing research experience, and the most hands-on, unique clinical experience I've ever heard of. Though miracles can happen, I don't encourage you to depend on this possibility, as I feel it's slim. To have a better chance, retake the MCAT.

If you're willing to consider a DO school, you would be very competitive at, say, CCOM, located in Naperville, as well as others.

I had a TA for a lab class with a 3.9 GPA and a 27 on the MCAT and didn't get in anywhere so I'd get closer to the 30 mark before applying.
