Other reasons: mom suffered from stroke and diagnosed with neurological genetic condition. Became her caregiver since junior year in college and still help her rehabilitate everyday. PS narrative around this experience, my MA experience, and my neurogenetic research in college.

My MCAT is pending and I know it’s on of the most determining factor of what are my chances.
I am testing in 5 weeks. Scoring from 511-514. Has 4 more AAMC FL to take.
Based on my average, hoping to score close to 515. But am least 511 possible unless things go south.

Using a consulting service for writing, so they will be good.

Based on my MCAT prediction, do I have any chance for MD schools? If so, what kind of schools should I apply to.

Will appreciate any suggestions. As a first gen and without any ties to the US except immediate family, I feel very alone and scared. That’s why asking your opinions whether to apply this cycle or study more to improve MCAT.
I am on my first gap year right now.

What is your state of legal residence? What is your mother's situation with caregiving? Is medical school in your best interest to have much less focus on your mom's care so you could focus on your studies?

My state residency is NY.
My mom is getting a home care aid later this year as she is turning 55. She didn’t get one till now because she wasn’t completely paralyzed and she wasn’t over 55. That’s why I had to step in. Due to constant rehabilitation, she has become mostly independent.

My father is retiring from his job this year in my home country and returning to US to take care of my mom and family.

My mom’s care won’t be only my responsibility later this year.

Thanks for answering about state residency. The question is how far you are willing to travel away from your mom and dad (if you haven't seen him and he's traveling home to be with mom). You mentioned you had family in California, but do you want to take that cross-country flight back and forth if something happens? Is it just a general desire to get into any school, and it doesn't matter where (which is not how you should think about it IMO)?

Your metrics should get you attention with a strong MCAT score. Specifically how many hours did you do food pantry and crisis hotline (separately)?

You will definitely want to apply to the 4 NY State schools. 75% of their acceptances are instate and assuming you get a 511+ you should get accepted to at least one of them. Then work your list up from there.

Your non clinical volunteering seems fine (no issues with what you did). Perhaps try to get it up to about 300-350 with more food pantry hours.

From my experience, I would focus on NY schools first when composing your list. I applied to 12 NY schools, got 6 interviews from those (4A, 1WL and 1 post II-R). I got 0 Interviews from out of state schools (over 20). I was told by 2 interviewers at 2 different schools how much they enjoyed reading my application and how strong it was. Clearly it was a successful cycle, just very odd that no out of state schools gave me an interview. I was in the 50-100th percentile for every school I applied to, with the exception of 4 reach schools.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am trying to increase non clinical volunteering as much as I can. I will continue food pantry and citizenship tutoring in the next year after applying , can I mention it in my application?

Mention what? You'll be able to list anticipated/projected hours, though for screening purposes, those hours won't count.
