Hi everyone,

I have two months to study tirelessly for my DAT.

I HAVE to do REALLY well, like 25s or higher across the board, since I want to get into the dental school by next summer.

CAN SOMEONE PRESCRIBE THE ULTIMATE COMBINATION OF STUDY MATERIALS THAT WILL HELP ME ACCOMPLISH THIS?

Unless you have like a 1.0 GPA, you do realize it is NOT essential to get 25s to get in somewhere, right?

Clearly, our vowel-y friend has a 1.0 GPA.

Okay, the ultimate combination:

1) Campbell's
2) Any OChem text (except maybe Maitland Jones) (did I spell that right?)
3) Any Gchem text
4) Cliff's AP Bio
5) Destroyer
6) Destroyer
7) Ass-glue.

#7 is the key ingredient. Many people are hesitant to apply the glue to the ass; many others apply it, but do not apply pressure between ass and seat for a sufficiently long enough time for the glue to set. I recommend giving the glue approximately 6-10 hours a day. It's very sensitive to EM so I suggest doing it in the absence of significant sources of EM radiation (i.e., television). Luckily, ass-glue is very cheap: it's probably the cheapest ingredient on the list.

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!
you had me fall off my chair from uncontrollable laughter......

Thanks for the advice....

So this is what I have on my list so far..

1. Kaplan Blue Book
2. Destroyer
3. Achiever
4. CrackDATPAT
5. Cliff's AP Bio
6. Campbell's
7. Ass-Glue

Any revisions or suggestions anyone?

Finally.... I have a 3.0 GPA, and 3.4 Graduate GPA. The reason I need to do a mind-blowing job is because I will be taking my DAT in NOVEMBER, which is VERY LATE for the 2010 application cycle. I hope that by getting stellar scores, Dental schools will overlook the fact that I too my DATs so late....

2) Any OChem text (except maybe Maitland Jones) (did I spell that right?)

hahahaha, i had him as my orgo prof last year and he is brilliant, but his book sucks. i remember bitching and moaning about his text all year and mostly learned all the orgo i needed to know from the ta's. sorry, that was totally off topic.

Well in that case, I would add Topscore full-length tests for more practice...and if you still have your organic textbook, plan on using that. Kaplan blue book and Destroyer go through a lot of the basics for that section, but I think supplementing with your textbook fills in all the gaps.

EDIT: Also want to add Chad's chem videos. He has organic and gen chem video sets where he goes over the basics for DAT/MCAT. Both sets are about 12 or 13 hours of lectures, but they are easy to follow and worth watching. Haven't seen the orgo vids, but I imagine they are very good as well!

WOW reading that made my day.

Also don't forget to do CDP regularly. The extra practice helps so much and keeps you in "shape." hehe

LOL u must go to NYU.. i had him for honors orgo 2 years ago .. his first year teaching 🙂.. i thought his book was pretty awesome.. sounds exactly like him lecturing lol... his questions on the exams were pretty similar to the practice problems too 🙂 .... ahh sorry off topic

when exactly are you taking the test? I am retaking mine at the end of October and I'm not sure if it's too late.

I would throw in some book from Exam Crackers with like 1000 gen chem questions, it sure as hell couldn't hurt..

In addition, I think Topscore would be very good for you.

Just FYI, you had better aim for missing 2 questions or LESS on every single section if you want a 25. That means missing no more than around about 12 questions on the whole 280 question test. That means ~96 percent correct

Don't aim for anything after wanting above 20.

Honestly, everyone has a ceiling and you have to be patient with your studying. Just study hard and start with the fundamentals!

I am taking my test November 1st.

As far as Ive been told, November 1st is very late to be taking a DAT..

Yes people still get into dental school even after taking late DATs, but its just a much rougher path. Dental schools wont consider you as seriously as they would if you applied early...

Exercising the inalienable right to dream.

Are you implying that I wont get 25s on my DAT...

or that I wont get into Dental schools for taking my DATs so late..

or Both?

Because if you are, then Im just going to jump out the window right now...

(Its a single story home, ill probably have some bruises at the worst)

i wouldnt agree wth you on this
Im pretty sure dental schools would see that applying early would give the applicant a better chance of being accepted..

Whoah, less than 2 questions per section....

guess Im just aiming between 21-25 Overall Academic Average, rather than 25s in each section.... cause that seems impossible...

Thanks for the advice ALL SDN'ers

Thats what Im saying... Applying early is a good thing....

I just hope my ceiling isnt lower than 21

Not impossible, just improbable, with a lot of dedication 😛 25's would represent about the top .1%. You really have to take the studying seriously to aim for scores like that.

my guess is that a 25 is about 3 wrong on RC, 1 or 2 wrong on QR, 2 wrong on bio, 1 or 2 wrong on ochem, 1 or 2 wrong on gchem. Not sure about PA

A box of Redbull from Costco.

Ochem Odyssey, lots of practice problems. It is doable to get between 21-25, I scored a 22AA and 22TS studying for two months, I did use lots of ass glue!

Thanks everyone for their advice!

So this is what I plan on using to accomplish my 21+ scores.....

1. Kaplan Blue Book (along with Online material/practice tests)
2. Destroyer
3. Achiever
4. CrackDATPAT
5. Cliff's AP Bio
6. ACS Ochem and Gchem
7. Ochem Odyssey
8. Ass-Glue

I plan on starting with the Kaplan Blue Book and Online Material. This way I will establish a lot of the fundamental principles and basics. Then I will read through Cliff's Bio, and the ACS Ochem and Ghem as supplemental materials to fill in gaps.

Then I will start the Practice with Destroyer and Achiever and Kaplan online exams.

About a month before my exam I will start Practicing CrackDATPAT routinely to ensure I do well on the PAT section.

Thanks again everyone! I will let everyone know how I do....

How about a bottle of prescribed amphetamines instead of the Redbull?
