hey guys,

so my stats are 26Q, cGPA 3.55, sGPA3.48. i have 2 Cs (one in biochem and one in ochemI). otherwise, all Bs and mostly As. my last year they were all As and i took a very hefty upper level science class load for the last year. i chose to graduate in 3 years.

i have decent volunteering experiences, lots of shadowing (including 2 DOs) and am working on 2 clinical research projects at a major university (not my own undergrad) with one that should have a publication by the end of this year and the second one that will take me this whole year to complete.

i know my MCATs are low and GPA is average, so i wanted to have an idea about my chances from those of you who are already in DO (or even MD) med schools and those of you who might have (or have had) similar stats and what boat you're in currently.

What state are you a resident of?

state resident of ohio and would ideally like to stay here (OUCOM is first preference).

how many places should i apply to? i was thinking 10 DO schools, but is that enough?

I'd be applying to some big schools. Your mcat score is ok. If you're choosing schools based on location.. then CCOM, KCOM,KCUMB should be on your list.

thank you for your response.

do you mean i should be applying to a big number of schools to increase my chances of acceptance or to "big schools" (as you said) since my mcat is ok?

i tried looking through SDN in regards to the big schools list, but they were quite varied. at this point, i just want to get into a good DO school and i think OUCOM would be suit me well. but i just hope i get in.

my current list of schools to apply to is below. is this a good list? should i add/delete any from here? and what do you think my chances of getting in here would be?

Ohio COM
Chicago COM
Kirksville COM
Philadelphia COM
New York COM
Lake Erie COM
Michigan State COM
Nova Southeastern COM
West Virginia COM
UMDNJ
Edward Via COM (in Virginia)
Des Moines
AZCOM
Kansas City
OK
TX

MSU doesn't take many OOS. TCOM requires you to apply using a different application so you might be reluctant to do that. Other then that I would add LMU-DCOM and I'd say good luck. Also there are 3 LECOM's, of which I recommend applying to all of them.

I agree with serenade. Definitely cut out the TX school and MSU. If you haven't taken genetics and don't want to take another class before you matriculate, then cut out KCUMB. Other than that, good luck. You should be able to get a few interviews.
