so here are my stats

I'm applying this year My science GPA is around 3.4.. I had biochem and Human Physiology last year and made Bs in them dropped it from 3.5...

MCAT is 10/10/8...8 is verbal.

I'm pretty sure my bio would go up with knowledge I gained from 2 classes I took last semester (biochem + cell physiology) as well as additional studying.

Bio major
Chem minor
Business minor

My grades were a upward trend, freshman year I didn't really know how to study coming from a high school that didn't make us take finals... freshman year GPA = 3.4
Sophomore year 3.65
Junior year 3.96

This is my senior year and last semester I made a 3.55 because I made 2 Bs in Biochem + human physiology 4000 lvl and 3000 level class..

This semester I'm doing a high level Cellular phys (pretty much biochemistry class projecting B+ to an A and 2 more upper level bio classes that I'm projecting As in.. so GPA should be around 3.8-4.0 if I'm lucky

So that would make my overall around a 3.68 probably it won't budge much now

Extracurricluar, involved in American chemistry society and did chemistry experiments "magic shows" 2 semester for kids.

ER volunteer/shadow 100+ hours mostly freshman sophomore year summers.

Various school pre health clubs.

I know this is kinda bad so this summer I'm going to shadow a transplant surgeon 3 days a week and also take a class to receive my EMT basic license. I plan on putting this into work during my year off.

I'm also planning on retaking an early July test so I'm setting away 2 full month for it.

so what are my chances for Texas schools? (Disregard UT southwestern and Baylor.. I know I have no shot..) I'm a Texas resident and I go to a Big 12 school in Texas and also where should I apply out of state wise?

Thanks for all your help.

Yeah you're definitely going to need more clinical experience than that. I don't know how heavily they weigh the clinical experience that you're going to get during the application cycle as an EMT and over the summer, but if they look just at your current creds you don't have a whole lot to make up for your pretty average stats.

I'd say you have a reasonable shot at all of the non Baylor/UTSW schools, but you're iffy overall. Obviously, a 30+ MCAT would make you a much more desirable applicant, and if you could get that I think your chances go up dramatically of getting in this year, as you'd suddenly go from avg stats/bad ECs to good stats/bad ECs, which may be enough to get you an interview if you apply early, and at least then you'll get to tell them about what you're getting from being an EMT and what you did over the summer. If worse comes to worse, I'd bet you'd be a lock the following if you had to re-apply, as you'd have several hundreds of more hours under your belt of clinical experience; so go ahead and apply this year, you should get a decent shot at all of the non-UTSW, non-Baylor schools, and sit secure knowing you're set for next year if that winds up happening.

Can't really help you w/ OOS schools, since I did the "just apply in Texas" thing myself 😳

I was accepted at Drexel University in Philadelphia with a 28 MCAT and a 3.76 GPA. I realize that PA is far from where you're looking, but I figured I'd mention it since our stats are quite comparable. Best of luck!

I think you have decent chance at all schools in TX except Baylor and Southwestern. Maybe you have even higher chance at A&M and TTech and UTSA. Anyways, your stats is no bad in TX.
