now that i am on peds, i finally bought a 28D lens. why don't i like it? yes, you can see out further to the periphery, but everything is so much smaller than the 2.2. with kids, the view is so quick that i need all the mag i can get! is there some magic trick that i am missing?

I am on peds too, its a 2nd year rotation for us. With kids, as you mentioned, dilated exams are difficult and all you usually get are glimpses of the fovea, disk and some periphery. For most kids that's just fine and you can do better exams when they are older and more compliant. If you, however, have any concerns about an intraocular tumor, optic nerve abnormality, RAPD, etc. you do need a better dilated exam. You may want to arrange for a EUA.

I also use a 28D for peds DFEs; the mag is smaller, but you "get more bang for your buck" in terms of amount of retina you get in one shot. Sometimes when I suspect ON hypoplasia I will use a 20D, otherwise 28D does just fine.

BTW, I am starting my cataract rotation on Monday and I have 5 cases scheduled my first day :scared: ! It's going to be fun!
