I am 27 years old and am interested in possibly pursuing Dentistry. I have been interested in it for a long time, but never pursued it. I don't know if it was because I felt too immature to take on the work load, or just got comfortable in moving up at work. Well I am now interested and had a few questions for you guys. Obviously I have not had any Biology, Chemistry, Physics, etc for a long time. Should I take these classes over again, or just study hard core for the DAT??

dental schools have prereqs. most will require intro bio, chem, maybe a biochem, etc. So you will have to take these classes eventually: it's just a matter of before or after the DAT. I think you should take these classes before your DAT as they will help you prepare for the DAT. Classes like Mammalian/Human Anatomy/Physiology that may not be prereqs will do wonders to your bio score. So you may want to consider taking these too.

Good luck!

I'm on the same boat. I graduated a while back, but I was always interested in dentistry, so I decided to study and take the DAT. First, you need to finish up with your science requirements to get into dental school regardless of your DAT score. This usually means 1 year worth of biology, chemistry, and organic chemistry. Taking them before taking the DAT will definitely help you with scoring well on the test. However, if you're like me, you might want to see if you can do well on the test before spending the time and money on taking those classes. This can also be done, but it will be harder to score well on the test. I would suggest at least getting the Kaplan DAT book.

I could be wrong, but I thought I read on some schools' websites that they require you to have taken the pre-req's within the last 5 yrs. from the time you apply. So if it's been over 5 yrs since you've taken the classes, you'd need to retake.
