Well its been a while since I have posted here, I have been mostly ghosting it. First of congradulations to all those who have been accepted to the 2005 class.

now my concern. on my first time around I was unprepared and I paid for it with low scores, AA15 and pat16(lowest scores being 2 11's) . I was met with some harsh critism here and resented it, but after much thought I understood that you were all correct.
now its been a year so I have studied and retoke my exam. this time around I managed to recieve a AA of 17 (lewest score 16 and a 21 on RC and a 18 on orgo) and a Pat of 18. also my GPA for both science and total comes out to 3.23. I applied to local schools, UMDJ, NYU, and buffalo along with some others., and sofar I have been told that I am on "hold" or "continueing review". please guys and gals I could use some opinions and if you have any questions please ask, thanks

I think you should have applied to more schools. did you get any interviews yet? If you did well the last sememster, send your transcripts to the schools you applied. sending transcripts is faster than processing time at AADSAS.

Eric,
excellent job on the improvements. you should not have to worry about becoming a dentist, i feel your dat and gpa, as it stands, will eventually get you in (if not this year, then next). i hope you applied very early and as t12kim said, you should also apply to many more schools. you never know, i saw someone w/ a lower gpa and dat than yours get rejected by nyu and bu, yet get accepted into a more known-to-be competitive program... the fact is, don't sell yourself short because you will never know where they may accept you. therefore, don't sweat it... in the meantime, keep raising your gpa, do extra community work, write some nifty letters and establish comm. with the schools you most find yourself attending, and if you feel you could do better on the dat then retake it, if not don't sweat it. i feel you have solid stats and some may disagree with me, but i don't think you should worry about your chances of acceptance... just keep making yourself more marketable as a student to the dental schools in the meantime.

very much agreed

Awsome guys, you have calmed my nerves very much, I have applied to about 10 schools thre aadsas this summer, I have not been invited to any interviews yet. I have already graduated and am curently doing lab work for a combany named matheson tri gas, I will be sending the schools an update letter to let them know this. i think that covers it.

I order gas from mathieson Tri Gas, didn't know that they had a lab, what type of work do you do???

I think you're best chances are NYU.

I was kind of like in you're shoes last year with a 17 and a 3.2 gpa, I am reapplying, but I did not apply to the big east schools like you did.

aw man what happened, did you get interviews, or did you apply to more dificult schools to get in to. how did you do this year.

i appllied also to Tufts, Marquette, Pittsburg, along with some others i have not heard from.

At MTG I am in the ER plant, I do some gas analysis on hexafloroethane and when we figure out how much to fill, ratios of the main gas to its balance we use boyles law, thats part of what i do. the other stuff is shipping. It is funny, I never paid any attention to cylinders until now, now i check their collars to see if they are one of ours.

Lets just say that this year is different, I increased my DAT from a 17 to a 19 and GPA increased as well.

I got interviews to UT houston, Baylor, Boston.
I have not heard from NYU, Temple, howard, and San Antonio
On hold at Marquette and Creighton
Rejected out right, Loma Linda, Meharry, Case, and Arizona

Thats this year alone, I am just glad that I got interviews this year.

Last year I applied to 3 instate schools and Marquette, and was rejected from all 3 instate schools but waitlisted at Marquette.

all imput is appreciated guys!!

I am currently updating the schools with a letter.

My thoughts echo some of those that have already been posted: your marks aren't spectacular and are probably even on the low end for many schools. To that end, you simply didn't apply to enough schools.

Also, I disagree somewhat about you showing a great improvement. It can't be denied that your DAT scores have improved, but to go from a 15 to a 17 doesn't really cut it in most admissions circles.

Sorry if I'm too blunt, but you asked for some opinions. I've had my nose in this stuff for quite some time. I'm not an authority by any means, but I have been around the block and have many angles on the admissions game.

thanks for your input, but I am not sure you saw what my improvments were, the gross is a 2 point raisr, to the admission offices I have asked said the same, it is a nice raise but nothing "huge". the raise was in my soft spots chemistry from 211 to 16 and orgo from 11 to 18.👍 these were my large increases. as for schools applied to there are 11 the ones I mentioned were those I thought I had the best chances in, I am sorry for the confussion. 🙁

I understand. Yes, those are huge increases (5 points on chem and 7 points on organic). Nice job on that--but your overall score is still nothing that makes you stand out.

Pray on an interview to do that (standing out).

i understand, thats why I am hopeing my good letters of rec, working in a dental office for many years, research experience, ect will help me stick out from the rest of the average. It seems my question boils down to one of those basic.....is it possible to get in with these scores. I tried very hard and I know that means nothing to some but I know what it took to do this and i continue to add to that effort.

thank you for your opinion and I hope you do well in your goals! :luck:

alright, first of all, not trying to be rude here, just give my honest opinion.

So, overall, you have a 3.23 GPA in both overall and science.
Your DAT scores are (AA/PAT): 15/16 first time and (AA/PAT): 17/18 second time.
this is your second time around.

IMO, a 17/18 DAT cannot help conpensate your 3.23 GPA much. These scores are good, but like Gavin said, it does not stand out (or competitive).
Of course, we have seen people who have these scores and still got accepted. Therefore, I think you still have a chance, but not a BIG chance.
If you have great LORS, essay, volunteerism and dental experiences, I think you should be alright.
My question to you is when did you apply? I think if you apply many schools (maybe 10+ schools, go for private schools of course) and apply early (in June or July), you should get in at least one. Better yet, try to improve that 17/18 DAT. Maybe try to get 19/19 (AA/PAT) atleast (because you need a competitive DAT to compensate for your less competitive GPA). Also, what did you get for TS? That is very important because a DAT with AA/TS: 17/15 is very weak. Some schools might not emphasize on PAT, but ALL schools emphasize on TS scores. A TS score should be 18 or above (IMO).

Good luck!

thank you for that, 👍 I understand, and Iam hopeing that with what I have other than scores will make me stand out a bit more. TS is a 17 .as for applying to 10+ schools I applies to 11. i applied end of july to mid August.

I also agree. If you could have improved your AA by one point or better yet

2. It could have made a world of a difference. From my shallow experience

the magic number seems to 18 for schools such as BU / NYU.

that seemsright,I am hopeing that I may be able to get in with these score, thought they are not competitive they are still good. knowing this I hope to get an interview, otherwise back to work on the masters degree, bring up the gpa, and retake the dats.

I have seen people get in with these scores, I believe that they will accept a good number of people with these scores, and I need to make myself stand out to them so they choose me. :luck:

I wish you best of luck too! However, if you applied in Mid August and you still have not heard from schools for interviews, the chance you are getting accepted is getting slimmer. Of course, having hope like you do now is a good thing. Hope is what make us keep doing what we want to do in the midst of obstacles and struggles. However, from what I see, you seem to depend on hope too much this year instead of on your ability (DAT/GPA). If unfortunately you do not get accepted this year, I strongly recommend you to retake the DAT. But then who knows, you might be the lucky one and get accepted this year!!! If you get an interview invitation, please be prepared and do well on your interview. Interview is significantl important!!!
