Hi I'm a 2nd year at Cal and this winter break, I volunteered at a independent pharmacy everyday for around 3 weeks.
I'm enjoying it so far.
Would getting a certification in pharmacy technician help my apps when I apply?
I'm also working towards a better gpa.. it's rather weak right now.

I think it will simply show your book knowledge on being a technician. Experience is far superior to a certification.

yea. Experience + certification..
However somehow, I can't find how. As in what steps I need to take. I've looked at the ptcb website. So all I really need to do is study and take the exam?

Any suggestions on how to study? Study information, books etc..?

Mosby's Review for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination

Hi! I am a HS senior and I am considering studying and getting my Pharm Tech license over the summer. This way I could work thoroughout my 4 years of college while gaining experience and $$.

My question is, do you think that I will be capable of passing with just my HS knowledge and study guides?

Hi for 88888888 to study for the exam you should use the Mosby's book to prepare you for it and that will be enough and make sure you do a lot of practice problems. CorrieNC you should be fine with the HS knowledge and make sure you use the Mosby's book to study as well.

This is exactly what I did this year. I'm currently a freshman in college and I'm about to begin my spring courses.

What I did was study in the summer, take the test in the fall and do a lot of waiting for all my application stuff to processed. I am finally a CpHT and also i'm registered with my state (CA).

I used Mosby's Review book to study for the test. The downside of not going to school is that you have to find your own externships, in order to gain experience. It took me a while but I found two places that were willing to train me ( for free of course).

After I finish all my training, I'll start applying to places.

I used Delmar Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam Review. It was a big fat waste of money and time. I took my exam today after studying for about a month. I felt bad towards the end of it, but my result was a "pass." Half of the questions weren't even covered by the book, a good 15% were basic algebra, and the remainders were rather obvious. My point is the test is fairly easy, and if you spend more than $30 on a book to study, you're wasting money.

The Mosby's book has verbatim questions from the PTCE... you chose an inferior book. Don't generalize to all books.

Sounds illegal.
Anyway, I know there are some cheap books out there for the PTCE, and I'm sure they would be equally as useful.

Hey nice copy/paste and stuff but yeah.

You must be new around here or something.

Maybe you misunderstood what I said. I didn't say the Mosby's folks printed the PTCE's questions in the book. It was probably a mere coincidence that some of the questions on the PTCE mirrored those in the Mosby's, as there are only so many questions you can possibly ask about such limited scope of practice in the material.

But hey, keep on keepin' on that crusade broseph.

Note: I didn't at all contribute to the Mosby's guide (lol, I'd be a wealthy man had I...) so... still not sure of the relevance behind your cute italicized copy pasta.

Like you said, it was a copy and paste. The italicized text simply came with it.
Could you tell by my post count?
The reason behind the post was: "The Mosby's book has verbatim questions from the PTCE"
I'm fairly certain PTCB was around before Mosby's book. But because these verbatim questions still exist, I'm guessing there's some loophole in the PTCB Statement of Confidentiality.

Possibly, but in any event, what does it matter?

I am sure the PTCB knows that Mosby's Pharm Tech book exists (Since Mosby's does series for damn near everything) and if they were concerned they'd shut it down.

Probably they don't care because they get their $129 anyway and the PTCE in its current iteration, as Phathead will happily tell you, is nothing more than a bad Jay Leno joke.

And no, I don't look at post count... Content tells the story, and you reek of green.

The purpose of my original post was to share my experience with 88888888. I doubt what followed helped him or her.

I'm sure it did, actually, since you'd have OP believe that all PTCE study books are not useful, which is not the case. It might very well be the case for the Delmar book you used (Never tried it personally) but was most assuredly not the case for the Mosby's.

Thanks for all these replies!
I will definitely check out the mosby review book. (might buy it soon)

Also... I forget to ask. What does a pharmacy technician do? do you need a license to work?

Is the pharmacy technician exam the same as the ptcb exam?

Anything else you guys have about pharmacy technicians! let me know. Would working and having a license boost pharm school applications?
What's on the test?

Thanks!
