i've decided that i don't want to retake any more pre reqs, but I might try the pcat again...although it'll be my 4th time, dont know what i was thinking back then, iddin't study what i should have, paying for it now...

besides that since i'm done with all the pre reqs i've decided to go for a B.S. in biology and wanted to ask what can you do with a B.S. in bio?

or what are you guys planning to do if you've failed 2 years in a row?

Hi there,

I think what I would do is call up admission and ask them what is it that I'm lacking? Is my grade? My PCAT? Personal statement, work experience, etc? If I can pinpoint what is it that make me less competitive, I'd spend my year working toward that. Good luck 😀.

Hi
I just wanted to give you a bit of encouragment. I was in the same boat, I took my PCAT more than once, and had a so-so gpa. I went ahead and got my BS in biology and reapplied, I got an interview one year 3 of them and still did not get in, but this time it was my 4th time applying and I got in. Perserverence, persistence, and dedication will get you in. Dont give up, and think of ways to improve your profile, work experience, re take classes if you want, do really good in the ones you havent taken, get your degree and volunteer. Also I recommend talking to the schools you didnt get into, not just to the advisors but hte assistant deans.
Good luck

I would have gone to film school so I could direct this movie I wrote about a guy that wins the lottery only to be diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer after being able to afford healthcare for the first time in 20 years and decides to spend half of his winnings on the most elaborate funeral in the history of mankind and the other would be given away to a random person based on an extravagantly bizzare contest at his funeral involving a giant game of Twister around his casket, a dance-off involving interpretive dances of the life of Richard Nixon, etc. I'm not kidding about the screenplay, I really have it all planned out. It's hilarious. Well, to me, anyway. Everyone else would just think I'm crazy. Like David Lynch.

So....are you saying he/she should go back to school and take an English class which stresses punctuation 😕 ?

My exposure to AIM has left me insubordinate to grammer for this summer. I thank you all for the support.

what's your GPA? IF you dont have a Bachelors Degree, most likely you wont get an interview unless you have a 4.0 like my friend's cousin who go accepted to nevada. most of the people with a bachelors didnt even get accepted. i would recommend you to get a bachelors degree in something that you like and study study study.....

My gpa is at 3.07, screwed up my first year cause of my stupidity and a girlfriend. I interviewed only at TSU and I am currently on their waitinglist.

What can you do with a Bachelors in Biology?

I have a bachelors in Biology. If I hadn't gotten in, there were many other options. My first choice would have been environmental biology, while working on my masters degree. I friend of mine makes lots of money working for a consulting firm. There's lots of land development in Florida and someone has to analyze the impact on the local ecosystem.

You could get your masters, then your PhD and become a college professor.

You could apply to physician assistant school, which is also a masters degree.

You need a bachelor's degree now? Lol, this is seemingly a little ridiculous. With a bachelor's degree and a 3.5+ GPA being the mean, that makes pharmacy school as difficult as Allopathic school to get into, with the exception of the admissions test. And it makes DO school even easier than pharm school!

Will someone confirm this please? Each time I say to myself "I'm gonna do pharm, I'll make it my goal" some obstacle comes up that hinders my progresss.

Sorry folks, but if you are going to try to tell me that I can't get in with just the pre-reqs or an associates degree, then I'm just going to go ahead and go to medical school. This is absolutely ridiculous.

Hi Revolver,
I want to assure you that you can make it. I don't have a degree but I have well over 120 credit hours with tons of experience in various field of life pharmacy volunteer inclusive. It is just that having a degree makes you more competitive though not required but recommended. Do it this way, if you can afford a degree before the admission cycle good but if not go ahead and tidy up your pre-requisites and you will be good.

Good luck and don't let nothing deter you form achieving your dreams. Good luck

Put it this way - I'll have 30 credit hours done at the end of the summer. I plan on applying next spring when I'll have close to 60.

You mean to tell me that I can't get in with 60 credits from CC with a 3.5 GPA and an 85+ PCAT?

I could've sworn I've seen other pre-pharm students that got in on nothing but the pre-reqs alone, and didn't have an 4.0 GPA and 99 pcat.

Hey Doydoy,
I thought you are on the TSU Waiting List! When did you receive your rejection letter?

YES!! That sounds absolutely fantastic... especially the interpretive dance off of Richard Nixon's life. It will be the next cult classic for sure.

Are you willing to relocate in order to go to pharmacy school? Applying to private schools and maybe some newer schools will greatly increase your chances of acceptance. If you have good extracurriculars and decent PCAT scores I think your 3.07 GPA might not hurt you too much if you apply to lots of schools.

I'm not sure what exactly you can do with a degree in Biology but I'm sure there are plenty of positions you can apply for.

Good Luck :luck: and don't give up if pharmacy is really what you want to do!

The lab that I work at (State funded) has many chemists working here with just a BS in biology or zoology. As long as you had a "hard" science degree you where qualified to be in the applicant pool.

I haven't recieved anything yet, i'm just considering what to do if I don't get in.

Thanks, I think i'll give it another try. In the mean time I'll work on getting a Bio degree

Just make sure you cover the pre-reqs. The schools I looked at (all 4-year) required >60 hours of pre-reqs, not they weren't anywhere near 120 hours, mostly between 64 and 70 hours of pre-reqs.

Ok, so if I have 70 hours of pre-reqs with a 3.5+ GPA, good PCAT score and I apply to many schools then I'd assume getting in should be a breeze.

I hesitate to recommend a BS in biology for the following reasons:

I actually finished college with a BS in bio about three years ago but I always intended to go back to school. I have been toying between med school and pharm school and decided on a PhamD program.

In the meantime, I've been working in a lab for the last three years doing research, which is fine if you are interested but is not at all rewarding monetarily and you need at least a masters to do decently in the field. Therefore, its fine to get a BS in bio but be prepared for more school.

My two cents...

Don't go to pharmacy school because you think that it is easier to get in to than allopathic school. Go because you want to be a pharmacist.

I only had 32 completed hours when I got accepted.

Even though I would like to be a doctor, I am not willing to spend the many years required for school, and then the many years afterward to live comfortably with the position. If I became a doctor, I estimate it won't be until I'm 40 years old until I can live decently without having the burden of student loans to worry about.

I do want to be a pharmacist. I like both, but Pharmacy suits me better since I missed out on school through the ages of 18-22 and I only go part time now.

Where did you get accepted? Post your stats please.

From an academic standpoint, you will qualify. Extracuricular activities, work, LoR's and interviews will be next. Whether it's a breeze is more about scholastic work.

Is this an of equal positions I'm going to pick that one with the least start-up time?

Physicians still have more options for full ride or faster payback (across the board) then other medical specialities. Now that may mean spending time in less desirable areas of the country or several years of military service, but it's a freer ride to an MD/DO.

Right. I'm not willing to devote that much of my life at this point to becoming a doctor. It's not like I want to be a doctor more than I want to be a pharmacist; sure it'd be nice, but life is too short, and I'd like to enjoy some of my youth. Had I started working towards it when I was 18 then perhaps.

Oops. I misread your post. I thought you HAD a BS in biology. In that case nononono....do NOT get a BS in biology! In my experience it is about worthless unless you are planning to go onto get a PhD. I would recommend biochemistry or chemistry instead, if you want to have a job if you dont get into pharmacy school.

Since you dont have your BS yet I wouldnt worry about having applied twice, just keep on taking classes toward your degree, keep improving your PCAT and keep reapplying. 🙂

I already got rejected once. My GPA is my weakest point. Do you know if taking classes at a Cal state will help improve my overall GPA? Or should i do a postbac program to improve my grades. ( Just got accepted to a program..dont know if i should take it and dont know if its worth the $$)
