I had 2 F's my freshman and sophomore year but otherwise, I have a great upper trend (i really screwed around and stayed 4 years at community college with no summer or winter classes. Only decided to try at school once my mother was diagnosed with cancer). These F's are really hurting me and I did a GPA calculation and it seems like I need 20 A's in 5 unit classes at UCLA in order to be an "average" applicant and this all must be done in 2 years span. (3.5 GPA).
Now I'm not saying its impossible, definitely hard path.. But is it worth it?
I did the grade replacements already and I'm already good for DO schools as my GPA jumped to 3.5 sGPA and cGPA. I am more worried about the MD schools.
I am a CA resident. I already have 1 summer research at UCI and presented it at a symposium, will apply for another this coming fall at UCLA. I've done habitat for humanity and will continue to do so. I've been working at least 25 hours every week (will quit if I have to and pull out loans). I am a sunday school teacher for 3rd graders. I will be volunteeering at a free clinic for 2 years until i graduate and will most likely take the MCAT after my graduation. I will also try to get some shadowing in this summer.
If I have a great upper trend [all 4.0s in upper divs, I think i can manage taking 13 classes (I'm guessing about 2 science classes per quarter (F/w/S/Sum) whereas aiming for that 3.5 would mean taking 3 science classes per quarter (this is considering the fact that some classes will be 4 units)] and am able to hit 3.4 sGPA (my cGPA would be higher than 3.5 because I'd take some GED classes), how would my chances look for MD? What MCAT score would be the minimal requirement for the lower tier schools? Impossible to stay in Cali?
Also, I've seen this link: https://www.aamc.org/download/157450/data/table24-mcatgpagridall2008-10.pdf.pdf and although its helpful, I'm aiming for the minimum of the 3.4-3.59 GPA students. It just seems a bit misleading to follow that.
