Hey guys,
I go to a grade deflation heavy top 20 school in CA and have a very low BCMP gpa... it's 3.23 and my overall gpa is roughly 3.5. I had a terrible freshman year with about 3 C's in important pre-req classes and 1 NP (thank god that's not factored into my gpa!) and it's been uphill every since. I've had ~3.7 sophomore year and this past semester I had a perfect 4.0. I made a decent MCAT score of 39 (13bs,12ps,14v) but is it enough to save me?!
About 500hours volunteering at a hospital, 2 summers of research, president of a non-profit club on campus, tutor at-risk kids at an inner city middle school and international volunteering in Nepal and Spain. I'm trying to get into research and a shadowing position this semester so I'll have that as well by the time I apply.

I'm in-state for Washington so my first choice would be UWash but I don't know if I have a realistic chance at it 🙁 Here is my full school-list. I have a couple of difficult reaches on there (places in NYC because it's always been a dream of mine to live in the city.) What do you think?

Cooper Medical School of Rowan University
University of Illinois College of Medicine
Tulane University School of Medicine
Medical University of South Carolina College of Medicine
Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine
New York Medical College
Drexel University College of Medicine
Wake Forest School of Medicine
Oregon Health and Science University School of Medicine
Loyola University Chicago School of Medicine
New York Institute of Technology Medical School
Michigan State University Medical School
Rush University Medical School
University of Connecticut Medical School
SUNY Medical School
George Washington University Medical School
Tufts University Medical School
Temple University Medical School
USC Medical School
Brown University Medical School
Boston University Medical School
University of Rochester, Medical School
University of Virginia Medical School
UNC Chapel Hill Medical School
Emory University Medical School
NYU Medical School
Northwestern Medical School
Mount Sinai Medical School
University of Pittsburgh Medical School
University of Washington Medical School
University of Michigan Ann Harbor Medical School

You certainly have an over-long list, but I think you should give it a shot (I would delete at least a half dozen btw).

Thanks gyngyn!
Are there any specific schools that you think I should cut? Also, I know my sGPA is really low so realistically do you think I stand any chance at getting into any of these schools with my current stats?

Many of the "lower gpa schools" will see you as low yield because of the MCAT.

But my gpa would be too low for any of the decent schools. It's a difficult situation :-/ I'm very hesitant about removing schools even if that means a lot of app work because I know my stats have a such a huge split. I'll definitely reconsider all of the schools again though.

Your call.
Let us know how it goes.

I suggest:

Cooper Medical School of Rowan University
Tulane University School of Medicine
Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine
Wake Forest School of Medicine
Loyola University Chicago School of Medicine
New York Institute of Technology Medical School (Note: DO school!)
Rush University Medical School
George Washington University Medical School
Tufts University Medical School
Temple University Medical School
Boston University Medical School
University of Rochester, Medical School
University of Washington Medical School
EVMS
NYMC
Albany
Vanderbilt
Duke
the Philly triplets
U Miami
Any DO school (like NYIT). Start with PacNW, Western-OR and work outwards.

imo anyone with a 39 does not need the word DO in his/her vocabulary

Thanks Goro! I will definitely exchange some of these schools on my list with a couple of your suggestions. Excuse my ignorance but what are the philly triplets?

MD is what I'm hoping for but considering the competition for medical schools today and my low sGPA, I'd rather do a DO than end up without a seat in med school at all 🙂

This would be true except for the fact OP has a 3.2 sGPA that is like a boat anchor to his/her app. Regardless OP has a real chance and should apply broadly.
