Hey Guys,

I just want some honest opinions here.

I'm a fifth year senior. I majored in Bio and Psych and Minored in Chem. I have an undergrad GPA of 3.3, which I know sucks.

I haven't taken the MCAT. I plan to do that in January. As far as prep goes, I feel confident that I will get a score in the 30's.

I have researched in several labs over the last 6 years.
I've volunteered a lot in my local community (big brothers big sisters, working with the hispanic population, working with alzheimer's patients).
I've shadowed a few physicians.
I've gotten a few awards here and there (research grants, scholarships, etc).

Are there any suggestions about where I should go for school?
How can I make myself more competitive?

I'm open to DO as well as MD. I know my chances are better with a DO program.

any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

If you score in the 30's you should be competitive for most DO schools and some MD schools (Depending on your score).

Some of this will depend on what your state schools are. Do very well on the MCAT, apply early and I would think you've got a good shot at some MD schools. I also had a 3.3. in UG, and am now finishing up my SMP, which I think has helped. So that could be an option, but maybe not necessary.

Agree with kmp0410. You're competitive for DO, and you might be okay at lower tier MDs. Just make sure you nail the MCAT on your first try. If you don't, I would say its time to do an SMP (especially if you want MD and not DO)
