Hello Everybody

I just wanted to know my general chances at an MD school and see if I even have the slightest of hope of getting accepted to one. From the looks of it from the other posts, its feels like my chances are very close to none. Any advice or constructive feedback is always welcome.

Here are my stats and EC's:

Bioengineering Major
Science GPA: 3.3
Cumulative GPA: 2.9
Ethnicity: Asian (filipino)

3 Years of Scientific Medical Research (Bioengineering related)
- 2 co-authored publications (another one incoming)
- currently working on first author publication

President of a Community Medical Organization. 2 years
- Planning and hosting of an annual free clinic that serves the uninsured/low income population in the community. Serve 300+ attendees every year

Doctor shadowing (100+ hours)

Student Government (Vice President)

Honors Program Treasurer

NASA Internship

Physics Internship Program at a local University

Private Tutor High School Students on STEM Subjects

Full Time Job at a company that provides clinical laboratory services (i.e. blood sample diagnosis)

Brief Background:
Failed first few years of college. Got my stuff together, saved some money, and went back. Had straight A's ever since (last 86 hours).

Two questions ...

State of Residence?
Have you taken the MCAT? If not, it's hard to gauge your chances since that's the vital linchpin to your application.

You need to raise your GPA above 3.0 since many schools will screen you out if your GPA is less than 3.0. Your chances are very low for MD school unless you can do very well on the MCAT- at least 515. However you could receive an acceptance to a DO school if you apply broadly to at least 20 schools and obtain a MCAT score greater than 500 and increase your GPA to greater than 3.0 .

I live in California and my MCAT is 520.

Thank you for your feedback.

Will any of the MD schools favor the upward trend in my GPA? Or is my cumulative too low for them to consider?

Well a MCAT of 520 certainly helps your chances for a MD acceptance. The GPA MCAT grid for Asian applicants indicates your chances for a MD acceptance are approximately 1/3 if your GPA is between 3.0 and 3.19. You still need to raise that GPA to 3.0 . Apply broadly to MD schools and consider :
Hofstra
New York Medical College
Quinnipiac
Albany
GW
Georgetown
Penn State
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
Oakland Beaumont
Western Michigan
Loyola
Rosalind Franklin
St. Louis
Creighton
Tulane
California Northstate
Any new private MD schools that open in 2017 (Roseman, Seton Hall, Henricopolis, etc.)
You should be fine for any DO school with your MCAT score. Also the fact that you have received straight A's in your recent academic record will help.
