Hi guys I am new to this site. I was wondering what are my chances on getting into dental school. My current gpa is 3.37 science is around. 3.4 I have a two year degree I'm dental hygiene currently working on my ba in health care admin. So far these are my preq grades English 1 B English 2 C math college Algebra A bio 1 B Bio 2 A chem 1 A chem 2A Orgo 1 A- Orgo two I'm currently taking Ap 1 and 2 B+ micro bio C. I haven't taken the dat yet but based on my grades do I have a chance. Also by being a hygienist does that help. And are my chances better because I'm Hispanic or is that a rumor. Thanks for the help guys and good luck!!!

Those As in chemistry are golden! I am taking chem 2 and although I got an A in chem1, this is a whole other level. I think you have a shot if you get a descent dat score

also I am new to this site, do you mind telling me how I can post something?

Hey thanks for answering honestly I am as lost as you are hahaha I couldn't find how to check my own thread. I saw somthing that said new thread and just saw an open box and typed in it. Are you pre dental as well

I have a very similar GPA (3.44 cGPA and 3.36 sGPA) and was able to get into 4 different schools. This included a C in Calculus II and a C+ in Organic II, with nothing lower than a B+ in the rest of my courses. As long as you do well on the DAT (AA of 20) and have a well round application you should be fine! Wish you the best of luck.

I am a Texas resident and applied to all 3 Texas schools this last application cycle. I applied as early as possible like mid-May 2012.

I was accepted to all three Texas dental schools.

I also made a C (almost a D) in Gen Chem II. I made several Bs and a few As.

Here were my stats:

oGPA: 3.36
sGPA: 3.39

AA: 23
TS: 24
PAT: 24
BIO: 23
GC: 23
OC: 27
QR: 21
RC: 19

I had a "below average" GPA and definitely made up for it with my DAT. I know people who had similar GPA with a lot lower DAT score and still received acceptances.

Congrats man what dat courses did you take

I think a 3.4 Sci will be fine as long as you are able to get a 19 or better on the DAT

I did not take any actually courses because of the crazy cost!

I took my DAT last February of 2012. I used:

-Kaplan Blue Book
-Barrons DAT (book)
-Crack Dat PAT (EXCELLENT)
-Crack DAT science (did not really like because it was so freakin hard and kept scoring 15s and 14s)
-Crack DAT math (pretty good)
-Crack DAT reading (okay)
-FlashCardexchange.com ~$20 (there are tons of DAT flashcards to study...there were even tons of flash cards on different biology/chemistry areas for specific details and such)
-Chemguy.com (**This was my primary method for practicing gen chem...All you do is donate like $10 to this guy, and you get access to 100s of gen chemistry videos. He is a general chemistry professor for Canada. EXCELENT!)

I kinda studied during December 2011 (2-4 hours/day). I started studying roughly 8 hours per day during January and February. I read the kaplan and barron book about 3 times each. I tried taking roughly 1-2 practice tests per week starting in January. Barron, Kaplan book, and CrackDat give you several practice tests to work on.

Money was a big issue for me, so I tried to look for cheaper stuff.

Thanks I will take your advice I know how challenging the dat can be I am just waiting to finish organic 2 so I can start studying this summer and hopefully be prepared by feb. do you think the c in English 2 and c in micro bio will hurt me bad. My mistake was to become a hygienist first it's really hard I took micro bio with ap 2 and 5 other classes. I'm sure dental school is worse but all that matters is passing once your there which is prolly easier said then done

I wouldn't worry about this one or two classes....look at the bright side, at least it;s not a D or F!!! The dental school will notice you experienced a heavy load of course work while you took these classes and take that into consideration.

I had 3 other Cs in other classes from a Jonior College! 😱

you have the same stats as me (even slightly higher)! i pulled an 22AA and 23TS and got offered 6 interviews.

Yeah getting what you got on the dat helped alot
