So my cumulative gpa and science gpa will both be a 3.3 by the time I apply next cycle. I have copious amounts of volunteering and shadowing doctors. My poor gpa stems from a bad first freshman semester where i had a 1.9 gpa and this last semester where there was a family emergency that I had to attend to. I have worked between 20-30 hours a week ( have around 2800 research hours total) for the past 2.5 years in a research lab while getting paid. This has paid off with many poster sessions, awards ( first place in the Undergraduate Research Symposium) and the first of 3 papers over the research being published, and this coming summer an internship at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. As a result of the research I will have some fairly strong letters of recommendation. I am in the Honors college and my course loads have been slightly more than average ~16/17 hour semesters and it looks like I will have a 4.0 this semester and plan on doing it the next as well. Will my ec's and personal statement carry my application or has my ship already sunk? Any advice or former experience with this would be greatly appreciated! THANK YOU!

Which schools would you be applying to? The answer is pretty dependent on this.

Well all of the Texas schools and I am a Texas resident so that should help out a little bit. I qualified for financial assistance through the AAMC and will get to apply to 14 schools for free through their application service.

Apply the day it opens. I think you have a shot at low tier MD. If you definitely don't want to reapply then add in a few DO schools.

Why is this a poll?

OP, dont fret. Apply broadly and you should hear some noise

Thanks guys! I have just been really anxious about the application process.
