Hey SDN!

I've looked over these "what are my chances" threads for a long time so I finally decided to make my own. I'll be quick:

Undergrad: 3.43 sGPA, 3.47 cGPA
Post-bacc: 3.61
Two MCATs: First was 9/10/9 (28), second was 11/8/10 (29). So if you take my best subsections, I have a 31, but I know schools typically don't do that.
I'd say my ECs are on the high side of average (300+ hours volunteering/shadowing, tons of community service, thesis research, etc)
Very solid LORs
PA resident
AMCAS Verified 7/8

So.....I know my GPA/MCAT stats aren't stellar, especially for MD. However, the thing about my GPA is that there's a major upward trend that's part of my whole "story." Basically, I had some serious personal issues sophomore year, and my GPA dropped to like a 3.o. The rest of my semesters are 3.6-3.8's, but my average is so low because of that year.

So do I have a shot at any MDs? Like I said, I know I'm on the low side, but that graph of the percentage of people who got in with certain stats puts me at a 30-40% chance, so there's hope maybe?

Basically, what's the best strategy to take full advantege of that 30-40% chance?

Sorry if this is rambling - any advice would be so, so helpful! Thanks guys!

Agree that we need to see a school list.

OP, you're a guy or gal who needs to apply broadly and to the right set of schools, but assuming you do, yes, you should have a reasonable chance of getting an allo acceptance. You may still want to apply to DO schools as well, however, especially if you're geographically limited.

So far it's a very rough draft haha but here it is:
Drexel
Temple
Commonwealth (PA)
Penn State
Jefferson
U of Illinois
-- have already submitted to the above, got secondaries from TCMC, Jeff, U of I --
planning on adding more in the next few days, here's what I have so far:
EVMS
Albany Medical College
VCU
GW
NYMC
Rosalind Franklin
Quinnipiac
MCW
Wake Forest
Rush
Rochester
Virginia Tech
USC (Carolina)
USC Greenville
U of Cinncinatti
U of Toledo

And yes, I'm definitely applying to DO, also. Waiting for AACOMAS to be verified.

Illinois and the Carolina state schools accept very few OOS applicants with your MCAT. To maximize your MD chances consider adding Hofstra, Oakland Beaumont, Western Michigan, St. Louis and Creighton. You should be competitive for DO but apply to 10 or more schools to maximize your chances and choices.

Thank you so much! I knew that about Illinois/Carolinas but I didn't want to preemptively rule anything out. Thanks again for the suggestions!

So I have some what similar stats and I am wondering should I choose schools based more on my Post bacc gap which in my case is a 4.0 or rely more on my UG GPA?
