hi this is my first post, but just wanted to get some ideas and possible suggestions on medical schools to apply to. I have already applied to all the Texas schools (I'm a texas resident) but am looking for OOS schools.
3.55 cGPA, 3.56 sGPA, 34 MCAT (previous ones were 28 and 26)
-reapplicant
-EC's include mission trips to Juarez, mexico and medical missions to Kenya; hospital volunteering, AMSA member/ leader; SHAC member; various community service

i appreciate any advice. thank you.

Add low/mis tier schools that are OOS friendly from your MSAR.

Good luck!

Did you get any interviews last cycle? Just curious because I have the same gpa and applying in Tx. Waiting to get my Mcat score in July. Besides lower Mcat and gpa, did you think you had any other weaknesses in your application?

I think you have a good shot at Tx schools this cycle with your improved Mcat scores. I think you'll get some interviews. How did you prepare differently from the first time you took the Mcat? I'd add mostly low and mid tier oos schools. I think your best shot is in Tx.

Apply very broadly. I had similar stats as you and you never know who will pick you up. This might mean it'll be financially taxing, but it's a small price to pay for the debt you're have as a medical student.

I did get one at TT El Paso, but I also made a mistake of submitting my apps late, so it was really unlikely that I would get any interviews anyways. Right now my weakness is probably my EC's for this past year. I was only working and volunteered minimally. In terms of MCAT, I took a bunch of practice tests and went through every single answer explanation afterwards. (I took 11 in a row before my actual MCAT) I'm currently out of school so I dont have a premed advisor, any suggestions for what low/ mid tier schools I should look into? I was already thinking of applying to Tulane since its next near Texas, but I don't really know about how other schools compare.

Which schools did you apply and hear a good response from?

so im thinking in terms of OOS schools: tulane and then some religious medical schools like loma linda since i went to a christian university. any suggestions for other schools i should apply to? thanks!

One question to ask yourself when applying OOS is "Where would I like to spend the next four years of my life?" Is there a particular city/area that attracts you?

Also, schools vary a little in what they emphasize and what opportunities they're known for. You mentioned you've been on several overseas missions. Maybe you'd like to go to a school with great global health opportunities. Figuring out which schools match your interests should be a key factor in choosing where to apply. I would recommend narrowing your list down this way.

Best of luck!
