Personal: In junior year towards end of semester brother almost died in home from drug overdose (he was a recovering addict, had a breakdown, and attempted suicide in home) called 911 and performed rescue breathing for 15 minutes helping to save his life. Is this PS material? I am interested in emergency medicine.
Also, my college requires a thesis in partial fulfillment of a B.S. degree. I have been looking into research on the medicinal applications of plants endogenous to Long Island. I have the option of conducting actual "bench" research over the summer while studying for the MCAT, or to write a "library" thesis, which is a compiled analysis of other studies that have been done to examine common trends about the properties of different medicinal plant families. I have come to the conclusion I should do the library thesis because I have already conducted research at BNL and am a published first author on the paper, and I need to focus 100% on priming myself for the MCAT. Is this the correct perspective or do I need another study? Do I have quite enough?
I just would like to know what I need on the MCAT to gain admission to NY med schools in the metropolitan area / LI realistically.
