Hello everyone!

Alright so I had an appointment with a member of the Dean of Admissiosn for my state school and she said with my stats, I may not even be granted an interview for this cycle. I planned to take the MCAT this September 1 (hoping for a 30+) and she said that it was fine and not late..I would like to apply to Wayne State btw..

Are my stats really that bad?? She said even with a 45 MCAT, I still probably wouldn't have a chance at getting into Wayne...so i've basically lost all hope in applying this year especially since she says I won't really have a great chance with low stats..

If I take an extra year and get 4.0 GPA, My cGPA could jump to a 3.71 with the sGPA being 3.45 at the highest..and i'd only need 8 more credits to make it a 3.5 gGPA...

I've posted another question with all of my ec's

I thought I had a good chance until now, but what do you guys think? Should I take an extra year to increase my stats or just apply this year and submit my AMCAS app and hope for the best? I don't mind waiting a year, but I thought I was slightly competitive.

Any feedback/criticism would be greatly appreciated. Please help! 🙂

p.s. if u have a list of schools where u think i could apply to, that would be great too 🙂

Your cGPA is on par with wayne state, and your sGPA about 0.3 lower - which MCAT should be able to compensate.

I think its ridiculous that your "advisor" told you a 45T MCAT won't redeem your GPA.

1) I agree with the above poster's comment, as a very high MCAT score can help adcomms overlook other weaknesses in an application.

More than just the raw number for BCPM will be important to many adcomms. If you have a steep upward grade trend in the sciences maintained over three semesters, your chances improve a vgreat deal. if on the other hand you had a recent poor grade and a downward trend, you should definitely wait a year to add your projected near-straight As to your trnascript prior to applying.

If getting into Wayne State is a top priority for you, and other state schools don't appeal to you, I think you don't have much choice but to wait a year before applying considering the feedback you've just received.

Wayne State may be an exception for some reason, but as a generalization, becoming Complete at schools during October when your application doesn't have optimal strength usually means a significant decrease in overall chances for the application season. This would be another reason to wait to apply until next season, as putting all your eggs in one basket (like Wayne State"s) is never a good idea.

thanks everyone for ur input!

MedAdComMD "I think its ridiculous that your "advisor" told you a 45T MCAT won't redeem your GPA."

I know..i was in shock when i heard that..kind of made me lose credibility in what she was saying..

Catalystik-

I did have an upward trend..that is until this year when I got TWO Cs!!! A C+ in Anatomy and Physiology 1st semester and C in Biochemistry. It killed me. like i vowed never to get another C after 7th grade shop class and look what happened...it's cuz i overloaded w/ extra classes and my first job and didn't put much time into those classes...i don't plan on retaking them anymore..i know I can do well in bio courses if i study very hard so im just going to take genetics and evolution (diff semesters) to prove i can do well...

is there any other input? 🙂
