Got a balanaced MCAT (12/9/9) and a 3.7 gpa with around a 3.7sGPA. EC's I would say are average. I also feel that my LOR's are above average. I'm an FL resident so I'm applying to all of them in state. Looking to apply to 2-3 Longshot (LS) schools for fun.

Anyone want to help me trim the fat so I don't waste money on school I have no chance at? And yes I have looked at the MSAR for these.

Here is my updated list 7/25/12

FAU
FIU
FSU
USF
UCF
UF
UM
Virginia Tech
Medical College of Wisconson
Virginia Commonwealth
New York Medical
Thomas Jefferson
Drexel
Creighton
Albany
Penn State
Commonwealth Medical College
Cincinnati
Mayo
Rosalind Franklin
Wake Forest
Wright State
Hofstra
Toledo
Tufts
Tulane

I would definitely get rid of Brown. They tend to favor RI residents and people who did UG there.
Id also get rid of either Mayo or BU (perhaps the latter if no research experience).

Your GPA looks good for hofstra but your mcat is slightly low. That said, I'd still apply to hofstra.

I agree with removing Brown. Perhaps remove Boston and Georgetown because both schools get 12k+ apps. Virginia Tech is a smaller class and they interview <150 out of 2100+ oos applicant according to the latest MSAR.

Alright, I'll remove Brown, Boston, and Georgetown. I really like virginia tech (I'm a chemical engineer so I appreciate the school in general lol), so ill keep that one. I also want to keep mayo as my 50-1 longshot.

Drexel gets a fairly large volume of applications too. I'd say your list looks good.

I'll keep that in mind. Just looking for some help to trim some of the fat so I don't go broke applying to a ton of schools.

I guess if the rest of the schools on the list I'm somewhat competitive with, the best way to eliminate it would be cross off schools in places where I don't want to be at?

Or schools with insane tuition prices?

Hoping to go from 30->25ish.

UM - is this Michigan? I read somewhere they have a hard screen for the first batch of interviews.
Virginia Tech - what others have said about OOS friendliness, but you said you like it so keep
Medical College of Wisconsin
Virginia Commonwealth
New York Medical
Thomas Jefferson
Drexel
Creighton
Albany
Penn State
Commonwealth Medical College
Cincinnati (LS) - great school (esp if you're interesting in peds), best secondary ever.
Mayo (LS) - apply! you never know
Rosalind Franklin
Wake Forest (LS) - with good ECs, I wouldn't say it's a LS. Also make sure you talk about why Wake in the II if you pass initial screening.
Wright State
St. Louis University
University of Maryland
Temple
University of Rochester
Hofstra (Might be a LS)
Loyola (LS)
Tulane (LS)
Tufts (LS) - expensive, crapton of applications
